The X-Ride takes to the road. Following on from the Classic version, with its rather atypical wheel profile, the Mash is now available in a Trail version, more suited to rides on dirt roads. Always in the spirit of a simple, accessible motorcycle, with this predisposition to time travel.

Without even starting the engine, you'll be transported 30 to 40 years back in time. When XTs, DRs and XRs were snooping around town and country. A truly basic trail bike, with no frills beyond the (rather classy) gold look of the spoked rims. That's where the Mash 650 X-Ride Trail really stands out.

With 17-inch wheels surrounded by chunky pavement tires, the X-Ride 's shoes are a bit wobbly for off-road riding. The 650 Trail returns to the same level of consistency, with a more appreciable dimension: a 21-inch bow backed up by an 18-inch drivetrain, with slightly more committed tires. This time, the homogeneity inherent to the segment takes its rights.

That's not the only thing that sets this bike apart from its Siamese sibling. The upside-down forks have specific internal components and several settings, while the braking system is less aggressive. The Trail's velocity is calmed by a 2-piston caliper with axial mounting. It bites a smaller 280 mm Wave disc. The only change is to the 240 mm rear brake, which has also adopted the Wave format. We also discover a more prominent front mudguard, a small headlight cowling and a cover for the injection system.

A minor engine overhaul is also part of the package. Not much, just enough to adapt to the new exhaust system. The maximum power output of 39 hp remains unchanged. Here too, the 644 cm3 monobloc takes us back in time, far from the incredibly efficient modern engines - a 690 Katoche produces twice as much potato... for twice the price.
The Mash block is the same as in the old days: air-cooled, 1 ACT, 5-speed gearbox, and a technology very similar to the mechanics of FMX, XR 650, Dominator and other Vigor bikes, except that fuel injection has replaced the carburetor. Riding the 650 X-Ride, you'll rediscover the taste and performance of the past. But not the weight. At 180 kgs, the Mash isn't particularly light for a bike of this type and technology.

the LCD speedometer is not in the same spirit. Neither retro nor in keeping with the look of the X-Ride. That said, the presence of a USB plug isn't vintage either, but will come in handy.
Before we set off, it's worth pointing out that the seat height has increased. At 890 mm from the ground, the saddle starts to feel its altitude. The Burgundy brand also asked for a new, stronger swingarm and reinforced chrome plating for the fork tubes.

As always, the price is exceptional at Mash. With the X-Ride 650 Trail, we're keeping our wallets safe, while making a commitment to reasonableness. It's not a WR, it's not a Transalp , and it's certainly not a GS. And that's why its public will praise its existence.
