presentation of the 1000 V10 CENTAURO 1998
this big Italian roadster is in a class of its own when it comes to beasts of character. It's not lacking in character, far from it, and its engine is a monument in its own right. But don't expect to find it competing with the Ducati Monster. No, this Centauro is a cocktail of power and charisma. A massive, elegant machine that looks good. A few delicate touches are present: inverted fork, injection for the twin and cardan shaft for the transmission. The big V2 shows strength and emotion. It vibrates, it pushes, it's big watts caught in the fat of copious torque. The chassis copes well as long as the road is smooth. If the road deteriorates, the bike's limits are quickly reached. The Centauro's philosophy is not efficiency, but sensations. It easily achieves this, with a charm distilled without sweetening. Too bad the riding position is so restrictive.

At traffic lights, you turn your head and the guys in the Jaguar start drooling.
If you get past the muscular counter-steering needed when cornering, the muscular arms needed to hold on to the handlebars when you open wide, the lack of protection (despite the windscreen in my case), the mirrors that are as pretty as they are useless, the permanent speedometer (to know where you are and avoid locking the rear wheel when downshifting in a corner), the lack of a speedometer (unreadable in sunshine or rain), this becanne is super extra.
Economical in use and on the road (moderate fuel consumption). Few people dare to overtake you and stay behind just for the sound of the twin-cylinder. You can ride up the queue in 4th gear. In summer, you're surrounded by bumblebees and swallows. Healeyx owners move off, Japanese drivers bend over. Guys in Ducats wave.
It's the bike of the century, but it's not a modern bike, far from it, even if everything is modern: the forks, the brakes, the cardan shafts...

A great bike, anti-moroseness and the road will seem more beautiful. Rating : 5/5 Respond to jluc
