presentation of the 800 Superveloce x Daniel Arsham 2024
Do you know Daniel Arsham? Unless you're a fan of art and design, you're not likely to hear the name. He, on the other hand, has been approached by MV-Agusta to look after one of its flagship models, the 800 Superveloce.
Arsham decided to scratch Varese's neo-retro sports car with his trademark artistic destructuring. First of all, it was scorched in an almost surgical white. Every cm2 of the bodywork, the tubular steel frame with its aluminum side plates, the rims, the swingarm, the tank, the mudguards and even the seat seem sculpted in snow. Only the mechanical parts, forks, brakes and tires escaped the blizzard.
But the Cleveland-born artist's "signature" goes further. Extrapolating his vision of an unstructured future, he inscribes his art into the Superveloce's flesh with mineral scratches carved into various parts. As if the erosion of time and albino Tiberium crystals had taken hold of the Italian motorcycle. His crystalline sculptures can be seen in the left cheek of the fork head, the seat cover and the fairing sides.
The American steampunk artist did the same kind of neo-archaeological integration with a DeLorean MC12 (Back to the Future), telephones, shoes, R2-D2 (Star Wars), Greek statues and Pokémon. MV-Agusta is collaborating with him on a very limited series of Superveloce Arsham: only 6 examples, which the firm has reserved for its best customers. Who won't be afraid to write a check that's sure to be abominable for this motorcycle art. For the record, a Playstation controller reviewed by Arsham retails for 3,500 euros.
We've estimated this model at 39,000 euros, but we wouldn't be surprised if it sold for much more.
Who the hell is this guy? He received the Gelman Trust Fellowship Award in 2003. Shortly afterwards, he toured the world with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company as the company's scenographer. This experience led to an ongoing collaborative practice that continues today as Daniel Arsham works with artists, musicians, designers and world-renowned brands, including Porsche and Dior. Daniel Arsham's uchronic aesthetic revolves around his concept of fictional archaeology. Working across a multitude of disciplines, he creates and crystallizes ambiguous in-between spaces and situations, and stages what he calls the future relics of the present. In 2021, Daniel Arsham was named Creative Director of the Cleveland Cavaliers, becoming the first artist to hold such a position. His work has been exhibited in the world's leading contemporary art museums and galleries.
