presentation of the F3 800 2018
unlike the F4, which has to make do with what it's got, the F3 800 has benefited from a number of recent upgrades, to enable it to continue its career under Euro4. It's true that its engine is so exhilarating that it deserved to keep those who envy it going. The 3-cylinder block retains its power and torque, updates its engine management, gains a hydraulic clutch, and benefits from a series of technical modifications to the cylinder head, timing, exhaust and gearbox. With these, the pistarde can renew its confidence and charm.
with this 800 version of the F3, MV-Agusta offers one of the most interesting sports bikes we've seen on the market in a long time. As beautiful as an Italian diva, sculpted, slender, sexy and terribly attractive, the Varese machine bridges the gap between the SuperSport 675 and the monstrous F4 1000s. With its 798 cm3 and 148 hp, the F3 is a breath of fresh air; with its 3-cylinder engine and MVICS package, this sporty machine delivers character and active safety. But above all, above all, what a beauty!
we won't go on and on about the plasticity of the F3 800. From the first F4 to the Rivale, Schiranna's machines never cease to intoxicate under the guise of elegance and skin-deep sportiness. To treat yourself to an MV is to treat yourself just by looking at it.
The first chapter of the F3 introduced us to a very small, very nervous engine block, with 3 bowls rattling around in 675 cm3. But as with any sweet tooth, you want more when your tongue craves even more satisfaction. There's nothing like a small increase in displacement to put the sensations into + mode. The operation went very well for the Brutale B3; the graft was just waiting to take hold on the pistarde.
what do we do with this boiler? Mainly an increase in stroke, from 45.9 to 53.4 mm. The displacement flirts with the 800 mark, but it's the engine's performance that takes the leap. The 3-cylinder now spits out 148 hp at 13,000 rpm, i.e. 20 hp more than the 675, and obtained 1,400 rpm earlier. Torque approaches 9 mkg at the same 10,600 rpm. The engine is capable of revving up to 13,500 rpm.
The engine-makers took the opportunity to upgrade the pedigree and internal parts, with titanium valves and new injectors - six in all. There's no need to touch any more parts; this 52-kilogram block oozes technology beyond power. Counter-rotating crankshaft, water and oil pumps integrated into the crankcases, tiny size and fighter-plane electronics.
the F3 800 is equipped with the Motor& Vehicle Integrated Control System, i.e. about as much assistance as a Superbike machine. Let's put it simply: Ride By Wire throttle, 8-stage traction control, 4 engine maps - one of which can be adjusted in all directions. For 2014, let's add the EAS shifter as standard.
Of course, we can be flattered to have these co-pilots to limit the swerving of the fiery 3-cylinder, but will this 800 offer us more chassis qualities? Let's be blunt and say that there's more to come from evolution. The "big" F3 gains Brembo M4.34a monobloc brake calipers, which promise formidable braking performance. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 1,380 mm, although the swingarm has been lengthened to 576.5 mm, for improved traction. The 43 mm Marzocchi inverted fork and Sachs monoshock benefit from new settings to handle the extra watts. Finally, the final drive ratio has been slightly lengthened. The ratio has been increased from 16/43 to 17/41.
After becoming a standard feature on 4-cylinder models, ABS invaded the Tre Pistoni range in 2014. The Bosch 9MP control unit is small, light and disconnectable. The F3 has two modes: Normal for on-road use, Race for heavy-duty use.
more horsepower, more money, more speed, more acceleration, more fun... everything increases with this MV-Agusta F3 800? No, the weight remains the same: 173 kilos dry. As a result, the power-to-weight ratio is 1.17 kg/hp instead of 1.35 kg/hp for the 675. A muscular Italian. And we can trust it to be superbly sporty with its singularly rigid chassis, featuring the eternal frame combination of aluminum plates and steel trellis. Pirelli Diablo Corsa tires are fitted as standard. Expect a machine as nimble and agile as the 675, with a nice ladleful of performance to boot.
