presentation of the 800 BRUTALE Rosso 2020

In red and black, the 800 Brutale Rosso makes an effortless statement. Its design already says a lot, its name fans the flame, its engine roars with the flavors of Italy.

beneath the 'Rosso' label lies MV-Agusta's desire to offer a more democratic entry-level model. Varese's communications present this Brutale as a more affordable model than the RR, with less power and a less polished appearance. It's not wrong, but it's mainly a standard 800 Brutale that's been simplified to bring the price down.

the RR is rated at 140 hp - today's Brutale is rated at 110 hp, like the previous generation. The 3-cylinder retains its watts and torque, as well as all the technical specs. Yet the price has plummeted by almost 2000 euros. How did MV manage to clear the slate?
The savings are achieved through a single choice of colors, improved manufacturing processes and a slightly lighter finish. The electronics remain, as do the chassis and the charm of Transalpine production.

So we're not talking about something new, but rather an evolution... A restyling?... An update. Coming after the serious evolution of the previous 800 Brutale. Starting with its powertrain. Let's go back to that moment:

MV-Agusta Brutale 800 Rosso with real thoroughbreds that should be appreciated as they should be: Italian mechanics. Full of character and wattage, with plenty of emotion. The brand had to deal with rather drastic Euro4 standards. How did the 3-cylinder cope? Not too bad, and it defended itself. Torque progressed, surpassing the old engine throughout the rev range and delivering 90% of its power from 3800 rpm.
Where the boiler felt its wings leaden was on the power side. In 2018, the stud fell to 110 horsepower at 11,500 rpm. To achieve this result, the Brutale had to steal its camshafts and pistons from the Turismo Veloce, redesign the intake pipes, arrange the exhaust line and increase the volume of the plenum. Naturally, the electronics were reprogrammed accordingly.
The results? A little less powerful, a tad slower, under 240 instead of over, but more available and fuller. Few will complain about this dynamic facelift.

mV-Agusta is far from being left behind in the frenzy to develop clever chips. It continues to offer a serious package, with disconnectable ABS, Ride-by-Wire, 8-step traction control, multiple injection maps (4, one of which is customizable*), and the up&down EAS 2.0 shifter. With it, upshifts and downshifts no longer require the left hand.
The dashboard also needed a little refreshing. And there's no need to look far: the B3 has simply borrowed it from the Rivale. Too bad the fuel gauge is missing.

MV-Agusta Brutale 800 Rossothe feel of the road, virile driving, senses heightened by rhythm... An MV doesn't think like a Japanese car. It's much more direct, more singular, for those who understand that emotion is experienced raw. Miss Brutale retains its confidence in a 43 mm Marzocchi inverted fork, a steel trellis frame linked to attractive aluminum plates, a Sachs amorto to contain the swingarm's movements, and quality braking. Two 320 mm discs are gripped by 4-piston Brembo radial pliers, while the 220 mm rear disc has to make do with a two-piston clamp.
The rigor of these components is hard to fault, and they're comfortable enough for enthusiasts.

it's not easy to modernize a Brutale, let alone an MV-Agusta. The hand must be sure and skilful, the talent certain, the work flawless. A choice of character. The 800 Brutale Rosso also aims to appeal to young licence holders, with a version that can be bridged to A2.
