presentation of the 800 Dragster RR SCS 2020
A grumble on the corner. Impatient, noisy, somewhere between a screech and a growl. Nothing less than a bubbling 3-cylinder, Italian it seems. Once up close, we discover the nervous, compact allure of an MV-Agusta 800 Dragster RR. It stands still, lurking, ready to pounce. You expect it to go off like a bomb. The rider holds on to the controls... and quickly turns the throttle. All of a sudden, the duo burst from the scene - yet the clutch lever has never seen the fingers of a hand. What kind of witchcraft is this?
It's called SCS. A.k.a. Smart Clutch System. An automatic centrifugal clutch developed by Rekluse. The system engages or disengages the gearbox without any action on the part of the user. The shifter takes over from there (with foot action, of course).
MV-Agusta has implemented the SCS to enable the kind of quick starts that are difficult to achieve with a conventional system. A fine little piece of technology, weighing just 36 grams more than a standard clutch, it fits into the dedicated housing without any modification to the engine or crankcase, and costs an extra 1,000 euros.

A Dragster is first and foremost a Brutale. So it's hardly surprising that the Brutale has had a major influence on the face. Same dynamic side scoops, same air intake vents, same stylized LED headlight. A handful of things have changed since theex-Dragster. The mirrors at the ends of the handlebars have disappeared, the turn signals have moved, and the rear end has been given a facelift. The recess under the seat, the removal of the passenger footpegs and the rear headlamp strip - all of these contribute to giving the stern an airy, delicate yet aggressive style.
But the footrests haven't really disappeared. They are much better integrated, as they can be raised under the rear frame. The superb spoked rims are still there, as is the half-handlebar adjustment system.
The dashboard has been taken from the Brutale. And if the engine block has evolved, it's because it also comes from its RR cousin. The 800 Dragster RR boasts a serious 140-strong cavalry, under the Euro4 umbrella. It has lost none of its power despite the strict standards. The manufacturer has done everything right: revised internal parts, optimized intake, exhaust modifications, redesigned crankcases, etc... In short, everything that has already been done on all Trepistoni models (F3, Brutale, TV) has been applied here. The result is a machine that doesn't gain a pound, and that's far more socially aware than before. Compared to the E3 version, it discharges half as much dirt and its engine boasts 48% less mechanical noise - not to mention the sound of the exhaust, which remains virile.
All this is to please Brussels. For day-to-day use, the gearbox has been completely overhauled. The ball-head has been repositioned in the frame to improve torsional rigidity. Was there a need? Not really. But it does show that MV is always looking to improve.
