presentation of the 961 Commando L.E. 'Energette' 2024
Norton is 125 years old. It's one of the oldest and most famous motorcycle manufacturers in the world. And even if its production remains small-scale, it enjoys a rare and precious aura, bearing witness to the greatness of English motorcycles in their sublime era.
A birthday like this is cause for celebration! All models in the catalog will be available as special series. Among them, the 961 Commando LE "Energette" has a special place.
with its honey-yellow color, brown leather saddle and original logo typography, this Commando exudes an unmistakable sense of nostalgia. It is a direct tribute to the Energette, the very first Triumph in history. Created in 1902 by founder James Lansdowne Norton and produced until 1906, the Energette used a Norton bicycle frame designed specifically for it, accompanied by a 142 cm3 Clément engine and a two-speed Sturmey Archer gearbox.
The 961 takes pleasure in contemplating its distant ancestor. To further distinguish itself, its Öhlins suspensions are polished, making the Swedish manufacturer's signature color disappear - in favor of a special shine, which is also found on the headlight and handlebars. The seat cover, in a matching color, is covered by the emblem dedicated to this limited series.
This is the only one of the 4 special-edition Commando models to feature high handlebars; the others are more Café-racer in style. Symbolically, 125th anniversary models will be produced in a limited edition of 125, all versions combined. The Energette version will cost 2,000 pounds more than the standard model. At 18,999 pounds, or approximately 21,800 euros, the British model is not cheap.
Its power may seem modest (76 hp) and its equipment sparse (no Bluetooth, traction control, Driving Modes, and other c.....ries). But a Norton Commando is nothing of the sort. Its value lies not in the techno-digital, but in the deep-sounding twin, the fully adjustable Öhlins suspension, the Brembo brakes, the aerospace-grade aluminum hubs for its spoked rims, its 70s English perfume; all that's missing is the right-hand shifter. It's a beautiful object, full of mechanical charm and fascinating visual character. And in this case, timeless.
