presentation of the NK01 2022
The fever for small, stylish urban motorcycles continues unabated, and Orcal is adding to it with its new NK-01. Having pioneered the field with the 125 Astor, the French brand is now tackling a more fashionable side, with clods of earth and a few shrub leaves in the mirrors. A scrambler? Well, not quite. The NK-01 doesn't have all the attributes of a scrambler, but it's got the idea.
It's not a bad little machine. And it sets off something when it passes. The sculpted tires, staggered fuel filler cap and headlamp grille quickly arouse curiosity. The long, flat, flanged seat adds a touch of charm, before ending up as a small backsplash. Simple yet attractive, the NK01 does a fine job of seduction. Just like its cousin Astor, but in its own style and with its own characteristics.
You'd think Orcal would have dressed up the Astor, but that's not the case. Not so. The NK01 benefits from its own frame and motorization. Its special steel cradle houses a basic air-cooled single-cylinder engine with 2 valves and Delphi fuel injection. On the Astor, it's a block derived from that of the Yamaha YBR - for the simili-scrambler, the choice fell on a powertrain inspired by the Honda CBF 125. Fins, rusticity, and power that also smacks of a bygone era. At its best, it'll pull you out of traffic with 9.8 hp at 8,000 rpm. As with all 125s of this caliber, we'll have to make do with a little torque, reaching almost 1 mkg. The powertrain passed Euro5 in mid-2021.
In any case, the NK01 isn't counting on its performance to seduce. In addition to its looks, it's thinking modern, with a USB socket, digital information in the single speedometer, coupled braking... and we're entitled to appreciate the stainless steel pot, the spoked rims, the engine cowling and the very inspired round vintage taillight.
Like the Mash and other products born in China then rebadged in Europe, this Orcal can count on an aggressive price.
