presentation of the Starship 6 2023
After the Starship 3, a bagger powered by a small 300 cm3 twin, PFMoto has moved up a category with a more pronounced road vessel: the Starship 6.
While the 3 openly copies the 1800 Goldwing, the 6 takes on the silhouette of the Goldwing Tour. The same profile for the suitcases, the top-case, the presence (only smaller)... Covers to simulate an aluminum perimeter frame, a dashboard console and digital interface very similar to that of the Japanese model... The photocopier is in full operation.
Of course, the performance on offer will be quite different. On the one hand, a totally accomplished GT with a 6-cylinder, 1,800 cm3 engine mated to a 7-speed robotized gearbox; on the other, a more delicate tourer with a twin-cylinder, 573 cm3 engine developing 60 horsepower.
Not quite the same world. But even if the Starship 6 is less gutsy than the 1800 GL, it's no gazelle either. The Chinese model has to move 280 kgs. The "average" engine is not going to be at the party. This bike could do with a more substantial powertrain. But for the time being, large-cube bikes are far from widespread in the Middle Kingdom. Only a handful of major brands are taking the plunge(CFMoto, Benda, Brixton...). Here, transmission is by belt.
the Starship 6's wheelbase is 1616 mm, barely less than that of the Goldwing. The machine looks long, imposing... and not too badly equipped. We note the presence of an upside-down fork, two front disc brakes with 4-piston radial calipers, a dual-branch shifter, LED headlights, ABS, three TFT screens, an on-board multimedia system with Bluetooth, crash bars, a height-adjustable windshield, and surely other equipment we couldn't detect.
Given the price of the Straship 3, the 6 shouldn't cost more than the equivalent of 6,000 euros. A price and performance appropriate to its country of origin. We'll certainly never see it at home, but it should be the envy of many on Beijing's roads.
