presentation of the N°1 2020

Electric motorcycle projects are having a field day. Futuristic looks, offbeat styles, innovative solutions, timeless projections, absolute ugliness, organic labeling.... There's something for every taste, and even for the trash can.
Then there's Regent (RGNT). A Swedish brand whose challenge is to offer the look of an old bike, like a 400 roadster from the 30 glorious years, powered by an electric generator.

the N°1 has its charm, and its assets. Not very extravagant on the chassis, it will do well in urban use, with a range of 150 km (in these optimum conditions) and an 11 hp motor (20 hp peak); this power should make it accessible to 125 license holders. As for the 125 km/h top speed, this means it can be used on just about any road, except off-road and touring.

the Regent likes to blend the old with the new: 60's styling on a 10's electric motor (2010 and beyond); a solid front brake disc backed up by aa 4-piston brake disc, while the dashboard is a touch-sensitive color TFT digital panel; a fake fuel tank as cute as a real Triumph's, overhanging a battery designed like a cinder block... The designers could have made more of an effort on the corners of their battery to better integrate it into the vintage tubular steel frame. At the rear, does it boast a huge drum brake? Not at all. In fact, it's the motor, directly integrated into the drive wheel.

the Regent N°1 weighs in at no more than 130 kilos, giving it the lightness of a small city car. For an electric grinder, the price is far from outrageous. Just over 10,000 for the first batch of 100 brelons. It can be pre-ordered with a 10% deposit, with delivery expected in 2020.
However, with a price twice that of a 125 Duke and more than three times that of a YS 125, electric motorcycles are still a long way from being democratized.
