presentation of the 47 2014
Erik Buell has long had a passion for Harleys. He had a sportier, snappier, more hectic vision for Milwaukee's productions. This led him to create his own brand. It lived on until 2009, when it was struck down by the global crisis. Was this the end of the adventure?
No ! On the one hand, Erik bounced back by creating EBR. On the other hand, some excited folks at Magpul, an American gun accessory company, got hold of some 1125 R's to give these machines a new lease of life. A mission carried out by a group of singular female warriors. Thus were born the 47 Ronin - Mechanical Samurai from Ronin Motorworks.
Let's talk about them . A Ronin is a Samurai who has lost his master. We'll come back later to the legend of the 47 Ronin and their act of bravery. The latest Buells have lost their trademark... The guys at Magpul figured that by taking the base of the 1125 R (and a few CRs) and rethinking the exterior, they'd come up with a vibrant tribute in the form of an exceptional motorcycle.
The result is here. Dry, jurassic, bitter to the point of brutality. It would seem that every Buell has aged in Batman's cellar to become a Ronin. The manufacturer has kept the frame (which doubles as a fuel tank), engine, gearbox, swingarm, brakes and wheels. The front end, on the other hand, has changed radically, with a Girder-type parallelogram fork.
Between its aluminum spars, the nose looks as if it's been carved out of a truck. This gaping hole actually houses a radiator, eliminating the unsightly shoulders of the latest Buell productions. By moving forward in this way, the bike can enter Mad Max territory with honors.

The attention to detail is reflected in a range of aluminum and carbon parts.
The original Rotax twin is untouched in itself. However, Ronin offers it a carefully crafted exhaust system, a custom ECU and new in-house electrical wiring. Particular attention has been paid to cooling, to eliminate the heating problems experienced during the Buell era. Undisclosed, power is expected to reach 150 hp on the Ronin. Performance is secondary for a creation of this type, but it should nevertheless provoke its share of emotions. The power-to-horsepower ratio is also boosted by weight loss. The bike weighs just 145 kilos dry, compared with 170 on the 1125 R.
The belt drive was retained... for a while. Most models were equipped with a belt drive, but the latest models were fitted with a more conventional chain drive.
The small American firm launched production of the 47 Ronin in several waves. The first series of 12 models was produced in black and grey for a price of $38,000 - a price advertised as lower than the cost of production. In short, an introductory price. This was followed by 10 black Ronins, priced at $41,000. The next 8 were white and priced at $45,000. Then the originality kicked into high gear. 6 models with acidic decorations for $50,000; then the price ceased to be announced for the following ones: 4 in camouflage edition, 2 in RAW version and 5 in Final Release, with particularly meticulous dresses. The very last, named after the Samurai who organized the final attack (Oishi Yoshio), was prepared and entered for the Pikes Peak race.
but what happened to give rise to the story of the 47 Ronins? At the beginning of the 18th century, the time of the Shoguns, a deep malaise develops between the high official Kira Yoshinaka and the young nobleman Asano Naganori. The tension culminates in a bold and violent gesture by Asano, who must submit to the law and kill himself by seppuku (the noble name for hara-kiri). The man responsible for the affront, Kira, should also have been put on trial. But nothing came of it.
So 59 samurai of the Naganori house, now Ronin, decided to avenge their master. After almost two years of preparation, 47 were selected for the attack, which was successfully launched on the evening of December 14, 1702. Only one Ronin was killed. Kira Yoshinaka was decapitated and his head presented on the tomb of Asano Naganori. I leave it to your curiosity to discover the whole story on the net (Wikipedia or others). The symbolism and honor are exceptional.
