presentation of the Meteor 350 2023

A major manufacturer in India, Royal-Enfield's 350 Meteor is the successor to its ageing but iconic Bullet. In the local market, medium-displacement bikes are gaining ground. It is therefore essential to maintain one's position in the sector.

Benefiting from a new engine and joint development by Indian and British staff, this custom roadster (or the other way round) will be a big seller in its homeland, but, surprise, it will also be found in Europe.

The Meteor's name is a sure-fire way of attracting the curiosity of enthusiasts: it takes us back to the 1950s, when Royal Enfield launched its twin engines. The Meteor of the time had a cubic capacity of 693 cm3 and produced 36 horsepower, slightly more than a Triumph 650 Thunderbird 6T of the same period.
70 years on, the new Meteor is thinking outside the box. Its engine is more modest, doesn't distort the manufacturer's mechanical tradition, and is Euro5-approved. With its 349 cm3, it produces 20.2 hp at 6,500 rpm, as well as 27 Nm (2.9 mkg) of torque at 4,000 rpm. Injection on one side and air-cooled and finned on the other, the single-cylinder looks pensive.

Royal-Enfield Meteor 350 2023 - 1Royal-Enfield Meteor 350 2023 - 1

An engine for relaxation, not ugly to look at and embedded in a classic chassis. A double-cradle steel frame with a 41 mm fork, a pair of shock absorbers at the rear and a brake disc on each side - 300 mm at the front with a double-piston caliper and 270 mm at the rear with a single piston to push the pads. The wheels are slim, with sizes of 100/90 - 19 and 140/70 - 17. A dual-channel ABS is there to keep an eye on braking. When it comes to suspension adjustment, only the rear is adjustable, and only in terms of preload. A logical restriction, given the range and price.

This handsome little cruiser could easily lead us to believe that it was inspired by a distant decade, but once you're on board, you'll be struck by its modernism. These two dials are full of surprises. The tachometer on the left contains a digital window displaying trips, fuel level and other information. The block on the right is surprisingly small, with a color display. Via the 'Tripper' app, backed by Google Maps, the bike and smartphone communicate via Bluetooth to offer a GPS navigator. A USB socket is also included.

The Meteor will not be the only model in the catalog. It comes in a 'Stellar' version, with a sissy bar, chrome exhausts and other colors; and in a 'Supernova' version, adding a windshield, different rims and two-tone colors.
At 191 kilos and just a ladle more power than a 125, the 350 Meteor won't be a racer. That's not what Royal Enfields are made for. We ride them for the charm and to take our time.

French Shogun Model 2024
One year with this bike, 8000km and a real pleasure to look at before getting in the saddle. I suggest taking the touring bubble as standard, as this bike has no wind protection, so it's very pleasant to ride, but not in all seasons. Another point: after an accident, it took 6 months to get all the parts to have it repaired.
This is a recurring criticism of this bike: the tires are fine in the dry, but have no grip in cold weather or on wet roads, and are very sensitive to road irregularities (white stripes, etc.) For less than 6,000 euros new, you won't find anything better.

After 20 years of riding motorcycles with displacements greater than 1000 cm3, and as I got older (70 brushes on the odometer), I decided to buy a nice, light and easy-to-handle little bike. I did just that with the meteor 350, and I'm delighted with it. There are almost no faults (although the top speed is a little light, and some parts of the bike are not necessarily very accessible for DIY work (fitting accessories....). Otherwise, this is a very pleasant bike for cool riding, with a nice design, what more could you ask for at this price? For freeway riding or long trips for 2, you'll have to go for the super meteor 650 cm3...... Rating : 5/5
l'essentiel de la moto, la moto à l'état pur.
French Pat B Model 2021
i've had this bike for about ten months now and have ridden it a little over 10,000km.
It's the bike I use for short trips, of the order of a few dozen km around my home or business.
For trips over 50km, I use a Goldwing 2021, which has now clocked up 96,000km.
Initially, I chose this meteor for its clean lines, but now I appreciate its very acceptable comfort, its 3 litres/100km and its reliability. I've had no problems whatsoever with this bike; - it doesn't consume any oil at all (I didn't have to change a single drop between the 500km and 10,000km oil changes).
- i've re-tensioned the chain 3 times (500km service, around 6000km, 10000km service) - front brake pads replaced at 10000km, rear pads still to be replaced - I had the tires replaced even though they were almost new, because the handling of these tires, already not great in dry weather, was non-existent in wet weather. (I've never had tires that held the road so poorly, even though there were wooden tires in the '80s) Apart from the tires (a problem easily solved by replacing them), I regret the 120 km/h speed limit.
I can understand that it's the price of reliability, but even if you install a gearbox output sprocket with 1 or 2 extra teeth (which obviously doesn't exist, or my dealer is misinformed) you're still limited to 120km/hour, whereas a little 130 on the freeway would be welcome to avoid being stuck on the C... by those who are convinced that they bought the asphalt at the same time as their car. (or else the road vigilantes)

A softail deluxe in the garage and now a 350 meteor. I love this little machine!
Lacks a bit of horsepower, but that's okay. Quiet rides...great!
Let's see the future super meteor with the 650! Maybe I will!

French Jeff2A Model 2022
The aesthetics are pretty good, but riding a machine that weighs as much as a 900 with practically the power of a 125 doesn't really give you any feeling and doesn't even allow you to ride safely on the freeway! Rating : 1/5
French GRRMAFRED Model 2022
On this day at the end of August 2022, I took delivery of a Royal Enfield meteor 350. After 8 years without a motorcycle -ex softail custom HD 1584cm3 - I'm surprised by this beautiful, well-designed motorcycle that's so much fun to ride. An engine that hums in the old-fashioned way, everything is there, enough to enjoy. Scuderia moto83 in Cuers received me very well. I recommend them

Good little bike, very pleasant to ride, comfortable, doesn't consume a lot of fuel, has an integrated GPS screen, runs better than a car school bike, doesn't rub at every bend like a Harley would.... A very good bike, the only drawback I could find is the 120kmh max, which is a shame, because they could have made it reach 130 without any worries, but as the bike was designed for the Indian market and their max speed there is 120kmh, that must have had a lot to do with it. Although I'm a huge fan of the brand, I wonder how this bike can weigh 62kg more than a 250 suzuki gn, which also has slightly more power ?????????? Rating : 5/5
French PHIL Model 2021
After many, many motorcycles in my life (over 120, I started when I was 6 and I'm now 58!), I've just switched from a royal star 1300 to a small meteor
The 1300 was really good, but became a bit heavy, especially for reversing.
I've been thinking for a long time about a bike with character (I've had all kinds of bmm and harleys), not necessarily fast, that's no longer useful, not Japanese (I've had too many and even if they're great bikes, the engine behaviors are often similar depending on the range and displacement). I thought I'd pretty much covered it all, until one day I passed the store of my childhood friend Philippe, an R.E. dealer in Carcassonne.
Meteor had just come out in June and it was July. A quick stop, a chat about the meteor and Philippe suggested I come and try it out on Saturday with my wife.
After all, why not? I immediately found a bike with a certain character, even if it has to be said that it's not very powerful, but with a custom stance that I like, a nice old mono sound, good pick-up, good basic equipment and, above all, a fine finish worthy of a Harley, as many parts are in metal (especially the mudguards), a small GPS, a gearbox that's well stepped and nice, fuel consumption of 3/l per 100 kms and, above all, a pleasure to ride worthy of a bicycle. Despite my weight and height (90 kgs / 1.90 meters), I'm not bothered, and riding a duo is no problem at all. My only regret is that I took a "Fire Ball" base model (there was only this one in red or yellow). I would have preferred a better-equipped bottom model, because in the end I bought almost all the options, which cost me a lot more than if I'd taken the top model.
Despite this, I'd recommend this bike, and at €4,000, what could be better?

Happy trails to all my biker friends!

Thank you Phil for your long and interesting comment
I've been a motorcyclist since I was 16, and now I'm 60! I'm in the downsizing phase, focusing on simple, fun motorcycles for pleasure.
I've had my eye on the meteor 350, what about using it as a duo, is it possible, how comfortable is the passenger?
Thank you and have a good trip

Good evening, I'm interested in the meteor which I find beautiful and nice. Could you give me your impressions after a few months of use, its qualities and faults as well as its reliability. Have you encountered any technical or mechanical problems? Thank you for your feedback. Rating : 5/5
Forget the spec sheet...this is one you absolutely have to try to make up your mind. You'll come away with a smile from ear to ear, and often a purchase order. That was my case. The bike is pretty, well finished and equipped (it has a GPS screen that much more expensive bikes don't have). The engine is surprisingly torquey and can go very low without knocking, much smoother than the "big" single-cylinder Yamaha or BMW I've owned. It's perfect for city riding (it steers even better than a trail bike) and cruising on back roads. Rating : 4/5

Nice little bike, no doubt about it. I've got a feeling I've got a bit of the same bike, only better: a 1982 Yamaha 400 SR carburettor, also with stick rims. Rating : 3/5

French Ludovic Model 2021
With these figures, Royal Enfield will most probably appeal to cruising enthusiasts with a "parade" pace, and that wouldn't be out of place, as it looks very pretty on the face of it. On the other hand, I fear the same effect as for the Continental GT: with an anemic single-cylinder, it will remain confidential in terms of sales, but with a 650 twin that proved its worth on the sister of the same name, it should sell like hotcakes!
