Motorcycle specifications SuzukiSFV 650 GLADIUS 2011 Twin & Conquer - Offensive on Bologna
presentation of the SFV 650 GLADIUS 2011
when Suzuki introduced its turbulent little SV 650 roadster almost 10 years ago, the brand was marketing a real little monster, as hard-hitting as the Ducati of the same name and competitor. A scarecrow in the category, it was a resounding success... which gradually withered away, the 2nd generation SV being far less convincing than the 1st. Success could return with Hammamatsu's new twin roadster: the Gladius. A machine with very Italian styling and very Japanese features.
code name: SVF 650. Nickname: Gladius. The word sounds like a provocation. Is it more than a threat to the competition? Certainly, given that it's the Latin name of the sword used by the ancient Roman legions. An amusing coincidence: MV-Agusta named a version of its Brutale the Gladio.
So, the SVF has many Italian leanings, both in its name and in its principles. Let's take a closer look. A sculpted Brutale-style headlamp, a trellis half-frame connected to aluminum plates... ah no! it looks like it, but they're really covers... But the essential remains: a lively, peppy L-shaped twin... This is the most serious and hearty competitor to the Ducati 696 Monster. The Gladius's design isn't as lean and compact as the Italian's; it's smoother, but also more responsive. However, we would have appreciated a different pot; this one looks as if it came from a scruffy Chinese motorcycle.
once you've had a good look around, you'll be delighted to know that the Gladius is powered by the famous SV twin. A twin that's been praised ever since its creation. For the SVF, Suzuki has revised it somewhat. Aesthetically, with redesigned crankcases... and above all in the camshafts, to make the engine more flexible and available. No loss of punch, however, as the transmission has been shortened, and worse, the engine-makers had to keep most of the 74 hp. The fuel tank is less generous at just 14.5 liters - we almost don't care, as the smooth curves and two-tone hues are so pleasing. But don't worry about range: ignition is by 2 iridium spark plugs per cylinder, fuel is sprayed by 10-hole injectors, and on-board electronics are optimized.
beginners, SV fans and enthusiasts of machines in this category will be delighted to know that the SVF retains many of the SV's ideas. Its engine, of course, but also its size and technical solutions. Standard fork with 290 mm brake discs, gnawed by double-piston calipers (ABS optional), ordinary swingarm (fortunately painted black). It's a far cry from Italian gear, but for the price, it makes quite a difference. We also note the return of the traditional bulb headlight and the adoption of a new instrument panel. A cousin of the GSR's, not particularly cheerful, but very practical with its gear indicator.
the SV' s time has come and gone - has the SVF's? In any case, the machine looks cheerful in every respect. The color scheme, with frame and rims changing color according to version, the remarkable twin, a preload-adjustable fork (let's hope they've overhauled the hydraulics), a seat that's not too high, and the ease known from SVs. Clearly, we want to try it out right away. The new ER-6 N, on the other hand, is a little less funny.
What more could you want, a beautiful plumage over a very pleasant ramage? Ah yes, a fuel gauge perhaps...

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 39 reviews
The 1st positive thing I noticed is that it's aging rather well for an old and basic machine.
As for the rest, the engine is lively at the top and bottom.
You can even go down to 2000 rpm without the engine knocking or stalling, as is often the case on a twin-cylinder. Fuel consumption is very reasonable, even with a generous opening of the throttle. I haven't got to the top of the rev counter yet, but you can easily reach 7-8000 without forcing it.
Despite basic suspension and braking, the bike is fairly well balanced, and can take reasonable angles without getting scared off. There are a few minor cosmetic details, such as the rear lip and the shape of the silencer, but shortening the end of the lip that protrudes from the plate is already better.
As for the exhaust, you can now find new and not too ugly silencers for less than 50 euros on Aliexpress.
Because I have no intention of spending 400 euros minimum at Akrapovic, Leovince or Arrow for a bike in this category! Another annoying detail is that there's no fuel gauge, just a warning light that flashes when the tank is empty.
But if you're used to it, you'll know that a full tank will last for 300 km. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Jeff2A
A divine engine, with torque you don't know what to do with, a kick after 6500rpm, supple at low revs, lively in the revs, playful, with a beautiful sound, in short a success
The chassis is sound, but the suspension is sluggish and pumping on hard cornering and braking. Braking is very (too) progressive at the front, but irreproachable at the rear, the whole thing never giving trouble despite the absence of abs
Ridiculous maintenance, no major recurring breakdowns, simple, tried-and-tested mechanics..
In short, a nice all-round bike on a ridiculous budget Rating : 5/5 Respond to Paracelse
Gladius, I declare my love for you, this bike is perfect for its price, more than perfect. It still gives me pleasure, it's aged rather well (with meticulous maintenance too, it must be said), its irreproachable behavior in all circumstances, its engine so playful, its noise, with the Yoshimura Evo pot, still as beautiful, 8 years later I still can't get enough of it. Rikiki fuel consumption, maintenance that costs nothing... A flaw? Comfort. But this is a motorcycle for motorcyclists, and despite the image it will always carry of a motorcycle for "gonzesse" or beginners, it's a real motorcycle at heart.
Thank you suzuki for this marvel! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Nonor
I want to order heated handles but can't find the size 120 or 130 mm?
Thanks

Only the seat and suspension can be improved. I look after mine and keep it. Rating : 4/5 Respond to YomaSFV
i'm enjoying my little Gladius, bought this summer, new, I find it fun, easy to handle, light and "efficient", in short no regrets, not even for the saddle which seems to be a problem for everyone, but I only do short trips …
I'd like to know how to reset the trip meter to zero to get an idea of fuel consumption, as there's no fuel gauge, and it's still handy to know how much time is left to ride (even if there's an alert when you reach the reserve). Thanks for your feedback. Bonne route Rating : 4/5 Respond to Mushi
My only two criticisms are the lack of gas gauge and the uncomfortable saddle, which is why I'm opting for a comfort saddle
And I'm selling my 250 GW Inazuma! Rating : 4/5 Respond to vincentelfe
At a price of 5550â'¬ in mainland France, I would have bought it at least 8000â'¬ in MAYOTTE. It's too expensive here. Mayotte is a French department! Ploof!!!!! Rating : 5/5 Respond to chaga
For your information, debriding a vehicle yourself without going through an authorized dealer is very dangerous. With a dealer, the registration is changed from MTT1 to MTT2 (or vice versa, I don't remember), so if you do it yourself, your registration no longer corresponds to your vehicle, and your insurance will no longer cover you in the event of an accident
I'm just saying
As for the handling. I've no idea. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
I've had quite a few motorcycles in my life. But this is without doubt the one that gives me the most pleasure!
I love the torque, the riding position, the handling, the simplicity. It makes you want to play...
For those who'll let themselves be seduced, plan to invest in a comfort saddle ... Rating : 5/5 Respond to bichonn
Great price for this type of roadster!
You'll need to add either gel or foam to the original seat, as it's hard.
A medium/large U fits under the seat, by machining two small parts of the seat (made free by Suzuki if you buy a U from them)
Fuel tank 14.5L, reserve from 220km riding well or even a little sporty, then about 60km max left over!
In black, a great look :)

I recently got my motorcycle license, and at the plateau we ride the Gladius. This bike is just great, its handling and engine are so pleasant, and it's light and easy to handle. Perfect for young riders.
So I'm thinking of buying it. In short, it rocks except for the seat. 😀

It's a very good bike, from every point of view, I've owned one since 2011, I'm very happy, but this bike doesn't look very matcho_00when you manage to make criticisms just for a name, basically, you're not very intelligent............... Rating : 5/5 Respond to Véro
You're right, it's great, I've been crazy about it ever since I bought my 250 Inazuma... As soon as I can, I let go, and what's more, it's an affordable bike, and who wants one!

Fabulous engine, low fuel consumption, a real bike to ride.
I'll probably buy another bike, but I'm keeping this one.
The only regret is that I don't have a fuel gauge, only a reserve gauge. Rating : 5/5 Respond to indianajones
