presentation of the DL 650 V-STROM 2012

after almost 10 years of loyal service, the 650 V-Strom is ready to pass the baton to its replacement. A new face, new technical data, but in essence, Suzuki's all-purpose trail bike changes relatively little. Its 2012 mutation is more akin to a facelift. Makes you wonder what the engineers have been up to all these years. Especially as the trail bike market has been revitalizing itself and gaining in style and impact for some time now. Gone are the days of lightweight, woodland-biking monos; the BMW F 800 GS and Triumph 800 Tiger XC paved the way for a generation of powerful, fun trail bikes, refining a more-than-interesting compromise between gentle Transalp-style urbanites and imposing travelers like the R 1200 GS, Guzzi Stelvio, or XTZ 1200.

timid in its evolution, the new DL relies above all on a new fork head to assert itself. With its softer shapes, it almost looks like a diplodo (look up cartoons from the '80s). Chunky plastic side scoops and a protective strip of the same material on the tank are the main differences on this new version. As a result, the novelty effect blends with a more rugged yet more gentle impression, but the charm is quickly diluted. The new dashboard, more compact and discreet, completes the look. As for the rest of the machine, the essentials have been retained, with just a few fine alterations.

suzuki renews its faith in its sparkling 645 cm3 twin. This has given the SV / SVS duo a great reputation. Currently installed in the Gladius, it will continue to operate in the new DL 650, albeit with a revised compression ratio - up from 11.2 to 11.5. The cam profile has been revised to improve mid-range power and torque. The use of a single valve spring instead of a double reduces mechanical losses. The clutch is revised for greater flexibility, and the housing protecting it is thicker to reduce mechanical noise. For the same purpose, the crankshaft has been redesigned. Previously air-cooled, the oil cooler is now liquid-cooled.
Officially fuller and peppier across the entire engine speed range, the twin is also more sober: 10% less fuel consumption.
The trail bike has lost 3 kilos and 2 liters of fuel. The tank has been slimmed down to the knees, allowing greater control of the machine and better foot contact with the ground. ABS, more sophisticated and lighter (down from 1.5 kg to 0.7 kg), will be supplied as standard, as will a 3-way adjustable windscreen. The wheelbase increases by 5 mm and the seat by 15 mm. The rear luggage rack is now made of resin rather than aluminum. Also noteworthy is the new shape of the mudguard to improve cooling by directing a flow of air towards the radiator.

Suzuki DL 650 V-STROM 2012

it's a pity that Suzuki's approach is so unadventurous, even if it appears that this V-Strom will be backed up by a more cross-country version, complete with roll bars, panniers, top case, double bubble and engine cowling. At a time when Europe is offering more typical products with success and image to match, the public would certainly not shy away from a twin with a larger displacement (thee (the 800 is fashionable), an inverted fork, a profile designed for trekking... In short, something that looks good, even if it's only used once a year. However, if this makeover makes it possible to keep an attractive machine while keeping the price down, we'll be less tempted to throw stones.

A reference.
After 86000kms on a dl650 bought new in 2008, this bike has never failed me in the wet or in the dry, it's really the ideal tool to go to work or for a weekend ride as a duo, I've just given this one to my son and bought a used L2 DE 2014 for my retirement which starts at 62 brushes, a piece of advice to all, don't hesitate to put PR4 Trail Michelin especially Top in the wet

Apart from the fact that this bike is exceptional thanks to its diversity and reliability, I'd advise those who don't ride it for TT to buy Metzeler Tourance Next tires. You have to take it easy at first, as the front fork suddenly becomes extremely precise, but once you've got used to it, it's a pleasure to go down every bend until the calipers scrape the tarmac, and the handling in the rain is very reassuring. What can I say except that it's an exceptional bike. I left my 4-legged (fz8) for the VSTROM, and it's a real pleasure, easy to handle, torquey from low revs (but not too much either), great duo, same for solo. The engine is a real pleasure, supple and present if need be, with a little muffled noise, but too much fun. In short, I'm more than delighted. A bike to try before you judge! Rating : 5/5

hello
instead of thinking about the late 1000,,, it would have been better to add 100 cm3, 15 horsepower and a bit of torque to this 650 which shares everything with the 1000 except the front brake calipers and a traction control useless here ,,,,,

After 160,000km of riding a fantastic Triumph Tiger955i, I'm not disappointed with the DL650A I've just bought. After 4,000km I appreciate its comfort, its low fuel consumption (4.2l/100km), its 69hp which is more than enough for me, its pretty dashboard and the nice, discreet sound of its exhaust. having driven 12000kms with a 2012 DL, I let myself be seduced by the "sirens" of marketing and bought a 1200gs; well a year later I sold it and bought a DL650; for half the price I got 90% of the BMW's qualities, plus better reliability....and that's worth the difference in performance between the 2. i've ridden the VStrom 650 all over the place, then the Honda 1000, the Yamaha, and 3 BMW1200RTs, and I'm coming back to the Vstrom. It's the only one that combines everything for comfortable 2-up riding, and it has 90% of the BMW's qualities and 0% of its drawbacks. Rating : 5/5

French Véstrom Model 2013
First bike, 48hp for A2 license, bought without trying it out, because the articles and reviews on this bike really refer to its capabilities: very nice engine, nimble chassis, easy to ride, comfortable for taller riders. Perfect for a risk-free introduction to motorcycling, with plenty of torque even when riding as a duo. The only drawback in my opinion is that the original tires are made of wood, which isn't very reassuring on wet ground, but they hold up well in the dry. Rating : 5/5

An absolutely remarkable and endearing motorcycle.
Having ridden a K4 for over 60,000 km (top reliability, no worries), I'm now the proud owner of an L2 with 7,500 km. I was very satisfied with the K4, with which we made long trips as a duo (southern Spain, Corsica, etc.), which is why I took the same bike.
For a fairly limited budget, you get a real little GT, very comfortable and powerful enough for very moderate fuel consumption (up to 500 km on a 20-liter tank...)
The protection is top-notch, as is the lighting (unlike many motorcycles), and the noise is very discreet, which, for my taste, doesn't spoil anything.
In short, a very pleasant, economical and comfortable motorcycle with which you can enjoy yourself without counting the cost.

I only kept this model for 6 months. Before that I had 2 other v-strom. I have very fond memories of it and recommend it. The bike can do it all, and with more agility than the old model. However, the front end is still a bit heavy - as you'll notice when you compare it with other bikes. The original bubble already provides excellent protection. Its range (around 400 km) is a benchmark, as is its comfort - which I haven't found on my other bikes. Having done a lot of duo riding, I've moved on to other things, but when I come across a v-strom again, I get very nostalgic. Rating : 5/5
Bonne à tout
French Raoul de Vesoul Model 2013
An excellent bike, I've been riding it to work in all weathers for the past year, covering almost 10,000 km. I can find few faults with it: sober, comfortable, well-equipped... nevertheless, if we're being demanding, we could criticize it for diving a bit under braking, its purchase price (8000 excluding options is still a bit high, 1000 less would make it one of the best-selling bikes in France, or else negotiate hard with the dealer) and its original BRIDGESTONE mount, which is a bit tight in the wet...from this point of view, to my great regret, they're only half-worn, but I'll certainly change them when the 12000 is overhauled.
Finally, it's certainly not a beauty queen, but I much prefer its look to that of the previous model. (This month is its 1st birthday, and I'm giving it a GPS with a SW-MOTECH mounting system under the bubble...shhh)

Hi 650 suzuke owners.

I tried one on Saturday and ordered it right away.

Very nice bike, and yet I'd tried a dozen before, and I was very surprised by the model's versatility. I'm 57 and still got the hang of it.

Bonne route à vous tous.

French Rickiboy Model 2013
Frankly, it's a hard bike to beat. Neither too big, nor too small, it has enough juice in the engine to do what it needs to do, but without overflowing. It's comfortable, easy to handle, economical and reliable. It's the right balance of everything. The only hitch is the height. For an old biker it's adaptable, but for a young one it's intimidating.

I think it's one of the best purchases we can make right now.

Hello, just a question
what do you mean by front not directional enough? for the suzuki 650 vstrom
this bike interests me thank you
Damien from Besançon
Rating : 5/5
Following the Magny-Cours test, we found that the front axle required "a bit more effort" to move in the required direction.

It lacks the spontaneity and ease that makes motorcycles ride effortlessly and naturally.

No cause for alarm, either. The V-Strom is nothing like a tired cow...

What more could you ask for?
Comfort, flexibility, sobriety, protection, cool duo,
allonge, availability, preservation of the licence, tranquillity, manoeuvrability, lightness, ABS braking. In short, a bike to put in the hands of all those who want to ride cool without fearing the lack of sin in case of hazardous overtaking.
3500km after several motorcycles from the transalp to the 1150r, including many Triumphs (Trophy, Sprint, Tiger), varadero, africa twin, 1100 GS, 1100RT, the compromise of all these beasts to ride...
One small drawback, however: it's hard to do without the cardan shaft.

I bought it as a second motorcycle to go to Africa. Why the V-Strom? I wanted a medium-displacement bike (from a backpacker's point of view, big bikes are too heavy, too techno-savvy and consume too much fuel), so I simply tried out all the trail mids (BMW, Triumph, KTM, Yam, Suz) to find the most versatile, because that was my main criterion (since, apart from marketing, "I ride in extreme conditions all the time").jerououled dans desconditionssextrêmest tout le temps", in reality a baroud is 50% road (good or infamous), 40% trails and hardly more than 10% technical parts (which you'd rather avoid, otherwise you'd buy an enduro!). In the end, the Strom turned out to be the most versatile and comfortable, while still being a real camel. Not bad for a bike I hadn't even planned to try out, believing it to be a road bike only! However, with a few modifications (notably to the cockpit), it actually performed quite brilliantly off-road, becoming the most versatile. Rating : 5/5

An excellent machine, just like the Versys of the same displacement, which is less formal but a little more playful. Unlike the Kawa, the Suz is more roomy for the duo and gives the impression of riding a light liner that's driven like a zodiac, and it's a hell of a good trip too. The engine is very good too, both smooth and spirited in its climbs. It will satisfy most bikers. It's perhaps the most versatile and complete bike on the market, because it's good or very good everywhere. And for those who say the engine isn't powerful enough for two-up riding in particular, first of all, this power corresponds to the 750 4cyl of yesteryear (after all!), it arrives earlier in engine speed, and given the current repression, it's not as hot as riding a 1000cm3. And I can say this all the more because I've had the 1000 model, with an engine that's much less easy to manage at legal speeds, and a cycle part that's less rigorous than the 650 (incidentally). Whether you like its looks or not, this Vstrom is undoubtedly one of today's best motorcycles. Ditto for the previous model. Rating : 5/5

Nothing very revolutionary, despite a nice, successful makeover
However, like many others, I'm waiting impatiently to find out whether Suzuki will follow up the 1000 with a larger-displacement model. If that doesn't happen, the competition (BMW, YAMAHA, HONDA, MOTO-GUZZI...) will inevitably gain a good-sized share of the market for big, rugged trailers.
