presentation of the DR-Z 400 SM 2005

supermotard fans, rejoice! The major manufacturers have heard you, and are now offering machines to let off steam. Based on the DR-Z 400 S, this SM version will enable young riders to appreciate the fun and sporty side of these turbulent bikes. A good trail bike is formidable in the mountains. And with 17-inch wheels fitted with sport tires, an inverted fork with multiple settings and a healthy single, enthusiasts are in for a treat. The front brake disc has grown enormously and will have no trouble stopping this machine, which is barely heavier than a 125. The SM will certainly cross swords (on the market, not on the track) with a certain Yamaha XT 660 X, heir to the same concept. The Suzuki will certainly be offered at a much more attractive price. It's clear that the supermot' is giving ideas to many people.

has the Marquis de Sade decided to dress in yellow? It would seem so, as the 400 SM borrows some of his mannerisms, which are not to our displeasure. Does his mill wield a whip or velvet? In any case, it knows how to show its sympathy and preserve its vibrations. At low revs, it's easy on the voice. Then it surprises you with its suppleness. When you meet it, the DR-Z 400 SM has all the hallmarks of a gentleman's bike: a welcoming seat, road-smoothing suspension, a standard riding position and a pleasant set of controls... The Suzuki is very urban.
When the game starts, the DR-Z SM reveals its charms, which immediately incite you to let loose, even to play the fool. Its cross-country size and weight, combined with narrow tires, make it a machine for twirling from corner to corner.

SUZUKI DR-Z 400 SMIt turns itself. The mill isn't very generous in terms of feel, but it's devilishly efficient. Bbbrooppp, broopp, broopp and we're off down the main avenue at not-so-regulation speeds in no time. Turn right and it's up the hill. The SM is even more stunning. With its road-hugging shoes, tip-top chassis and forks taken from the 250 RM, the Suz supermot authorizes a maximum of delirium.
"I've got to show it to my friends! It's true that a sporty machine like this is very exhilarating. But the mates are going to start taking the piss out of the DR. "It's only a 400 cm3... It doesn't even have a trunk or a rev counter... The location of the Neiman is a pain... Do you have a stepladder to stand on?..." Here's a handful of noodles who just don't get it. You can't lend them something this fun to make them understand: they'd never let it go.

Hello, I'm a beginner in motorcycling and I'd like to treat myself to a drz 400sm, but I've found one made in 2005 with 32,000 kilometers. I'd like to know if it's not too much, knowing that I'm a young driver so I'll be riding a bit Rating : 5/5
carburant?
does it run on SP95 or SP98?
Thank you for your help

You can use both. Priority should be given to 95, not E10 95 (which isn't a problem, but it's less efficient), or 98 if neither is available. Rating : 5/5

i just sold mine today after almost 4 years on it (35,000 km, 20,000 of which I did myself)
never a breakdown, never a problem, reliable and sturdy, a fun, playful bike that loves wheeling.
the sound with a pot other than the original is superb.

Un supermotard léger et très facile
French Model 2005
Hello everyone

I started motorcycling at 14 with an old Honda MTX50. Then I took my 125 license at 16 to acquire a sporty 125 Honda NSR (the best 125 sport). I've been an enthusiast since I was a kid, and now I'm 19, with my big cube license in my pocket, I wanted to switch back to a cross-type motorcycle because it's very playful, and I love big monos. I didn't hesitate for a single second to pick up the DRZ400SM. An exellent bike, a smooth engine in all circumstances (the 5th one can go from 60km/h to 160km/h). No complaints. It lifts without a problem at red lights, although I sometimes scare myself at 55kg ^^ . It's very light, easy to handle and very stable (I often skid when downshifting, but nothing to worry about). Suitable for both leisurely and sporty use, this bike is exceptional. It's suitable for beginners and experienced riders alike, and with a little preparation, it's close to 48 hp (power bench test). I've got an Akrapovic line mounted on it, and the noise is simply magnificent. The lighting is very good. I wouldn't sell it for the world! (just like my NSR 125 ^^). I'd recommend it without a problem, the only downside is that after 20 minutes on the freeway, you start to get bored... But it's not made for the highway anyway. Also, the neiman is a bit of a pain, but you have to get the hang of it ^^. Very good bike, which surprises me from Suzuki by the way hehe ^^

Ciao and bon route!

This is my 4th bike after a bandit, w650 and a fazer

I've never had so much fun on a bike, a real velo. The front end is very light and the bike is very playful
Don't be afraid of its 400 small cm3, because it keeps up with the sportbikes on small roads!

A great bike that I recommend whether you're a beginner or an experienced rider!

I've just bought a DRZ400S from March 2007, the latest model to be marketed in France. So far, it's exactly what I expected from the tests I've read about: a ployvalent bike, light and easy to ride in all circumstances. Good performance both on the road and in the TT, as befits a true trail bike that hasn't succumbed to the prevailing obesity! Never a dull moment!
If this definition of a fun bike suits you, go for it, because it's no longer available from dealerships! A handful of very well-priced used 2007 and 2006 models are still available in France

To answer SHERCA's question, this bike isn't just for motorcycle beginners. A lot of experienced bikers think they're pilots, but they're way off the mark. I'm a police biker and I get off just as easily on my DRZ SM as on an R1. The pleasures are different. The DRZ SM is a great little bike, very pleasant, torquey, playful, very well balanced, the clutch supports riding on the skid point (a speciality of police bikers) which avoids putting your feet down when passing between cars at very very low speed. What's more, it's not expensive. One of the big advantages compared to other supermotards like HUSABERG, HUSQVARNA or the more powerful KTM is that when you need parts for your DRZ, SUZUKI dealers are around every corner. The DRZ is an excellent choice for urban and mountain touring. But it can do even more. I do 100 kilometers a day with my DRZ, even if I drive a good part of it on freeways, I still enjoy myself. It's just a question of passion. What's more, the DRZ doesn't guzzle too much fuel. A very reliable motorcycle. Rating : 5/5

i bought it last week and frankly it's the best. Light, maneuverable, powerful for a 400, of course, it's a bike! of course I live in the mountains. Not recommended for those who want to ride on the highway! Have a good ride... Rating : 5/5

hi i just bought 1 1 month ago...before i had 1 tl000r 02 pipe devil&power commender it was really a bomb...because of the future increase of the plates in quebec i decided to exchange it for 2006 drz400sm...i thought about it for a long time before making the exchange because i was very skeptical about what people were saying about this bike...about the cost i didn't know top if i was about to make a mistake...because i already had a 1999xrl650 honda...nothing comparable!!!
a lesson I learned forgetting the light speed of my tl100r...for the rest it shoots in mass for the city&country road!!!!
and it's much, much more trippy!!!!
ps...i bought sys echapp yosh+filter k&n and i'm about to put the cam kit..

Hi everyone,

I've had one for a few weeks now and it's clear that it's really pleasant to drive, even to pilot
But Mr SUZUKI, you forgot the 6th gear to relieve the engine on the straights..

good little cheap SM, but it's a shame it's not the E version engine (39 carb instead of 36, thinner baseplate gasket for better compression and sharper camshaft) NO, it won't be sold with enduro rims, the one sold with it is suzuki france's version, the DRZE 400 SM, which has the E version's engine, but no inverted fork, and other annoying little features such as no steering block or retro threading Rating : 5/5
I've had one for 2 weeks... Well, it's been raining since I got it, so it's not the best!
But I've already got a great feeling with it, and I've got a feeling I'll be riding it for a long time..
It feels like a DT125 with 2x the power..

To answer our Canadian friend, it should indeed be delivered with 'enduro' wheels, to be seen. I also have my doubts, but a bike that combines two pleasures....is really a great idea! I think I'll fall for it too, and go wild on the Ardèche roads! Rating : 5/5

I've just ordered it with a CRD line, a K&N air filter and a Dynojet fuel kit, and I'm still thinking about changing the carburetor (put the E's in 39, because it's originally in 34), or even changing the camshaft
In short, it's going to heat up at red lights and skid around the little bends in my native Normandy, in the ducoté of Rouen

For the record, it's scheduled for February 22 according to my concess', so let's warm up before letting the beast howl...

i own a 2000 dzs sm equipped for supermotard riding and I can assure you that you can catch a cold on anything that moves, but not on the straights (lol it's not an r1). I had a 600 bandit prepared, but this is nothing like it. it's bluffing, it works really hard, it's light, it's torquey for a 400, and it works very hard, of course for a 400; it's even more powerful than the dr 650, that's for sure. in short, I'd recommend buying it to anyone who wants to have fun and isn't looking for pure speed, but for the kind of pleasure this little mono provides. I want one right away, and I'm also waiting for a 650 twin-cylinder version that could compete with the aprilia, which should be coming out with a similar animal soon (it's competing with bolley right now). Come on, nippon, let's keep on walking, we've got to come out with light, powerful sm bikes like the europeans. bonne route a tous Dju. Rating : 5/5

Hi guys I'm from Canada and I<have made a deposit of 2000 $ CAN for a DRZ400SM2005 at Moto Claude ste-Marie which will be delivered in store in the spring, I<have chosen black, I<have heard rumors that Suzuki offered the 2 wheel kits (slick + VT). Is it true? Do you have any info? Ha yes, it cost me 7400 $ CAN (about e6000$) so 8600$ CAN all taxes included, delivery preparation too. I consider that it's not expensive if it honors the specs.
