presentation of the 750 GSX-R 1991
The last GSX-R 750 to feature the SACS engine with mixed air/oil cooling, the 1991 model (year code M) did not undergo any major changes. But despite an update the previous year, Suzuki was careful to keep up with its increasingly aggressive rivals (Honda VFR750R RC30, Kawasaki ZXR 750 and Yamaha FZR 750R OW01).
with its emphasis on a sporty image, Suzuki has given its new model a fairing and rear shell reminiscent of endurance machines. The sides and lower fairing remain the same as on the 1990 model, but the fork head is slightly slimmer and more aerodynamic. The two round headlights now sit behind a plexiglass, above a pointed nose, contrasting with the massive face of previous models.
the rear shell is slimmer and features a double taillight, while color schemes remain traditionally white/blue and white/red/black. It should be noted, however, that the blue decoration is strongly inspired by Minolta-sponsored endurance models.
in terms of technical changes, the most notable is a modification to the valve train. On previous models, the camshafts operated a rocker arm for 2 valves. On the 1991 version, each rocker actuates just one valve. Equipped in this way, the engine now boasts an extra horsepower, with power now peaking at 116 hp.

in terms of dynamics, this model retains performance levels close to those of its predecessor. Improved aerodynamics seem to more than compensate for the weight gain. Nevertheless, it loses a little in low-speed acceleration (3 tenths from 60 to 90km/h, probably due to the greater weight) and gains in higher-speed acceleration (2 to 3 tenths from 90 to 130km/h, thanks to the improved aerodynamics).
commercially speaking, this update enabled Suzuki to maintain its sales figures (around 2000 models sold in France in 1991) compared with the previous year (around 2100 models in 1990).By way of comparison, the 1989 model had lost 50% of its sales with the arrival on the market of the Kawasaki ZXR 750 Stinger.
1991: A very good year, until the water-cooled versions appearing the following year.
