presentation of the 1200 Thruxton RS Final Edition 2024
Triumph sounds the death knell for its Thruxton café racer with a majestic Final Edition. No frills, no extravagance, just British beauty. For its ultimate version, it comes in an elegant "Competition Green" hue, with hand-painted gold piping. A work of noble finesse, worthy of a fine aristocratic salon.
this Thruxton is also one of the rare motorcycles to feature an easter egg: the man behind the golden paintbrush affixes his signature... Somewhere on the bike. This is the English "touch", with a hidden sense of prestige.
Turn your attention to the tank and linger over the Triumph logo. It's not the current one! The brand nods to its past with the design of its 1936 emblem.
like all exclusive bikes, the Final Edition comes with a certificate of authenticity, VIN number and signature. The signature of Nick Bloor, Triumph's boss, as well as autographs from the team that developed the Thruxton 1200. Each bike will be supplied with a unique engine badge, adorned with a gold outline and 'Final Edition' graphics.
the Thruxton's origins date back to 1964, when the Bonneville 650 T 120 went on to win the 500 Miles in this small Hampshire town, on a circuit built on the site of a former military airport. Not to be confused with the Velocette Thruxton, which arrived later but with the same sporting intent.
Connoisseurs will be reminded of the charm of the British bikes of the time and their "delicate" reliability. For us, the Thruxton's debut was in 2004, when John Bloor's company decided to rekindle the café-racer flame with the 865. Younger riders will get their start with the 1200, and its engine, much bolder than the one used in the previous 10 years.
the 1200 HP twin is borrowed from the Bonneville , but calibrated in High Power to deliver 25 extra horsepower. With 105 horsepower and 11.4 mkg of torque, the Cafra's connecting rods have plenty to exalt them on the road. Not pure power like a hypersport, but a gentleman rider's élan. Comfort-wise, it's Spartan. In terms of looks, it's the '60s at its best. From a technical point of view, many machines would like to be as well off.

But above it all, there's something that efficiency, timing and sliders can't compete with. The pleasure of letting your eyes run over the chrome-plated double speedometer, where the needles rule; taking the time to rest your envy on the metal belt of the tank while hooking your gaze towards the Monza-style cap; and then, seeing your teeth full of gnats and wind reflected in the polished fork crown.
For all this, you have to pay the price. 1000 euros more for this Final Edition. As the Truxton RS is already not cheap, you're looking at a sportivo-classic for almost 20,000 roros.
Unless... Add the matching fork head, a pair of Arrows and a Cromwell - and you've got the 20 KE.
it's a great story, a saga, that's about to come to an end. For 20 years, the Thruxton has punctuated the category of distinguished classic café racers. It was born with 865 cm3 and says farewell with 1200 cm3 and a top-class chassis.
The Final Edition concludes the epic, with a limited edition of ..... 160 units will arrive in France from spring 2024. Austria and Germany will be entitled to 150 units; the same number will be available in the UK. Triumph aims to make this a collector's item.
