presentation of the Scrambler 400 X 2025

Ducati may have seized on the "Scrambler" image with its 800, but Triumph has used it in its own way to give it a different image. "Other images" would be more accurate. It's either urban-chic in its 900 definition, or premium-off-road in the 1200 XC and 1200 XE versions... or fun-access in this new 400 cm3 episode. Here's one more adventurer in the manufacturer's range, and in more ways than one. In a way, it's about getting off-road and having fun, but more importantly, it's about conquering a mass market, in countries where small-displacement bikes are the norm and account for the bulk of sales.

But the Scrambler 400 X is first and foremost a Triumph. That is to say, a motorcycle with a badge of seriousness and elegance that it maintains fiercely. So when the British enter the small-size sector, they do so with bikes of a certain class.
And they succeed. The youngest member of the family has clearly picked up a dose of the DNA of her siblings, while asserting her own identity. With its small size and cosmetic effects, it immediately shows its seductive potential.

The 400 siblings start out with two little darlings, the Speed and this Scrambler X. The basis is the same, with enough work to allow each of them to go into its own sector.
To differentiate itself from the roadster, the young countryman decided to go for narrower wheels, more suspension travel and different geometry. Let's take a look.

Triumph Scrambler 400 X 2025 - 1Triumph Scrambler 400 X 2025 - 1

First of all, it needs a more elusive line. It's reminiscent of the adventures of Dr. Jones, with a protective grille over the headlight, handguards, wider handlebars with cross-bracing, different rear-view mirror stems, a double exhaust, a two-piece seat and a different riding position. It's a little less engaged, straighter, almost more muscular, thanks to its more commanding handlebars, higher seat height of 835 mm and lower footrests.
The Scrambler also shows that it's following its concept with slightly higher suspensions, with 150 mm of travel, and modifications to the chassis. Compared to the 400 Speed, the presence of a 19-inch rim and a 41 mm longer wheelbase have an impact on geometry. The headroom is greater and the column angle tighter. The Scrambler's dynamic behavior will therefore be more typical, all the more so as it changes shoes for Metzeler Karoo Street - in 100/90 - 19 and 140/80 - 17.
The 43 mm Showa upside-down forks with large pistons look good, despite their lack of adjustment. The rear loop is bolt-on, and the monoshock underneath allows preload adjustment.

Triumph Scrambler 400 X there's nothing to be jealous of on the engine side, with both models inaugurating the new "TR Series" block. This 398 cm3 single-cylinder engine is equipped with everything you'd expect from a modern mechanic: injection, double ACT, 4 valves, liquid cooling, 6-speed gearbox, assisted clutch with anti-dribble... and a dose of glamour as a bonus. Triumph has grafted its own type of right-side triangle crankcase, a few fins under the cylinder head, a premium label badge, a vintage collar to hold the exhaust, and has managed to conceal the radiator as well as possible. When you claim to be a member of the "Modern Classics" family, you have to show off your pedigree.
On top of that, the single-cylinder engine produces 40 hp at 8,000 rpm. Not class-leading, but still a 100 hp/liter ratio. Torque reaches 37.5 Nm, also within the sector average. But the maximums are reached earlier than with the competition. The rider will have plenty to enjoy at hand.... without having to go looking for the smell of gunpowder. That's not what the 400s are for. The front disc doesn't believe the story. Larger than on the Speed, it measures 320 mm and the optimized compound pads are enclosed in a 4-piston radial caliper.

At 179 kgs, the Scrambler 400 X is the lightest of the family. 26 kgs lighter than the 1200, 44 kgs lighter than the 900! But 9 units have been added since the 400 Speed. We still wonder why the majority of bikes in this category weigh barely less than a Yam' MT-07!?!!
The weight gain is explained by the extra equipment on the Scrambler for excursions with the potential for gadgets. The foot controls are typically off-road; in addition to the headlight, a grille protects the radiator; the engine cover is a little larger, as is the front mudguard.
We're also thinking about the kind of playfulness the rider might feel when out on the trails. To this end, ABS and traction control can be disconnected. Too bad the wheels aren't spoked.

Triumph Scrambler 400 X This little Triumph didn't want a TFT screen. In any case, this kind of instrument doesn't really suit this type of machine. That's not to say that the tech isn't there. We've seen it with the riding aids; it follows with all the LED lighting (nice rear light when cornering), a daytime signature, Ride-by-Wire throttle and USB-C socket.

Just as appealing as the Speed, the Scrambler 400 X is a great gateway to the Triumph brand. However, it's not easy to make a place for yourself in the sun here at home. Whatever the brand, the category doesn't attract the crowds. This is of relative importance to the English brand, which is counting on its success on the other side of the globe. Their marketing will begin there first. For us, it will be at the end of the year.

The result of a partnership between Bajaj and Triumph, the 400s will take advantage of Indian facilities to launch their offensive.
Whether under Asian skies or here at home, this Scrambler will have a lot of fun countering the BMW G 310 GS or the much less wattled Royal-Enfield 411 Scram. Its secondary target will be the A2s of the old continent, where anyone wanting to buy a Hinckley Scrambler would have to write a cheque for almost twice the price of this 400.

Too, too cute! It didn't take me long to fall for it... It's my second bike (I have a BMW 1250 RT). I'm only 1.70 m tall, and despite a seat height of 835 mm, I felt at ease straight away. Light and twirly, with a surprisingly supple single ( it starts up again without banging at 50 km/h in 6! ). Even if you're not buying a bike for time trials, it's a vigorous performer that keeps vibrations to a minimum.
A nice little noise and a beautiful Triumph finish! ++++!

Like many people, I've been a motorcyclist for 25 years, and I work on a motorcycle all day long. I've had a lot of bikes, Ducati Monster 600, Honda CBR 600, Yamaha XJ 600 Diversion, Kawasaki 600 eliminator, Ninja 400, Z650RS, MotoGuzzi 900 Bobber, and now this beautiful Triumph 400X. I've almost finished the break-in: nice bike, light, with a great sound. A bit high for me, but it'll do. My neck is thankful! speed bumps and crappy tarmac are no longer a problem. The 150mm of downforce at the front and rear guarantee a serene ride, without having to stress about dodging all the potholes on our beautiful roads... Of course, another 20 Nm or so of torque and it would be a perfect bike! Another plus is the fuel consumption; I fill up the tank and the display shows... 360 km ! 3-3.5 L/km!

Its major flaw? The led light!!! Weak Weak Weak.
At night it really sucks. To be changed as soon as possible. At the price offered this bike is really a success.

very good bike comfortable seat great riding position very good road holding pleasant suspension much better than the 400 speed seat a little high for those under 1.75 cm very good choice for those looking for a light, high-performance, versatile bike Rating : 5/5
French JMC 78 Model 2024
I've owned a 400 Scrambler for 2 months. After nearly 1500 kms of virollos in the Vallée de Chevreuse, I can testify to the playful, healthy and reassuring character of this very pretty Scrambler, which brings a smile to every bend. Of course, it lacks the thirty or so horsepower and torque to make it a war machine, but that's not the target of this type of 400, which is intended for the simple pleasure of riding on the secondary network, on a very rewarding bike that reminds me of our good old 600 XT and XLR, but better (not bad for a small 400).
As a motorcyclist for 30 years on all kinds of bikes (from enduro to sports bike, via my Harley days), I find this 400 X to be a real "Swiss couteux", good for everything from daily commutes to Sunday rides, while cruising along on a pretty, reliable and elegant bike.

It's been 6 months since I cracked for this little 400 and I've already ridden it 6000 km, so I'm sharing my experience with you. (20 years on the road and a few big cubes...) I wanted to have fun with a bike that didn't encourage crime and with a real identity... well, it does the job perfectly! A face to turn heads for neo-retro lovers, a playful engine that sings well for a 40 hp single, appropriate and reassuring roadholding, reasonable fuel consumption of 3.8 l, super-easy handling, a smooth clutch with crisp gearshifts, in short, a real little bike for town and the secondary network. You could criticize its weight, but personally I find it reassuring on the fast lane, as it gives it a little more footing given its fairly high ground clearance. In terms of improvements, the 1 and 2 are really very short and require frequent flicking of the selector, the seat lacks a little comfort and waterproofing, and the mirrors move at 130 km/h... (problem on mine or on the model?) In short, if you're looking for a bike that's easy for everyday use, versatile and rewarding, this will be perfect for you. If all you're looking for is sensations and performance, then you simply won't buy a 400... Rating : 4/5
French Calvaro Model 2024
It's a success, more powerful than the 500 xt or 600 Ténéré. Very good acceleration from 50 to 110/120 in 5th and 6th gear, and that's enough given the speed limits.

Not interested in freeways, it's fine for a few stretches of 4-lane.
The right bike for country and mountain rides, in the spirit of the TV series Kick, Raoul, la moto et les autres. Check it out on YouTube for that excellent 80s vibe!
I fell in love with it after trying it out.
You don't need 900 or 1200 Scrabble to enjoy yourself, especially when you've been off the bike for decades.
The important thing for me was good performance without unnecessary power, so as not to be tempted by extravagance

For my money, the prettiest 400 of the moment. Impeccable lines and finish, I love it. The mono is responsive and efficient, it pushes not too badly! I'm waiting to compare this engine with the Hymalayan's, knowing that there's a 50 cm3 difference between them. Nervousness and top speed would be in the Triumph's favor. As for aesthetics, it's hard to do better than the English bike in my opinion. During the test ride, I never felt I'd ridden a "small" bike.
It really pushes! You just have to do without the extension ;0) This is a real gem for the city and the country roads!

Hello, thank you for sharing. I've just tried it too. I got my licence last week and I'm looking for my first bike (43 years old/1.85m). I tried the Honda nx500. It's safe and wise, but not much fun. The Triumph is prettier, more responsive and not too expensive. On the other hand, the fan goes off at practically every traffic light... (Because of the break-in?). I can't think of any other model I'd like to start with that's fun and has a straight-backed riding position! Rating : 4/5

i agree with everyone else, I'd even have been interested if it weighed only 150kg like the Ballero Fantic, which is a 500ccm3 for that weight at almost the same price. Because it's magnificent. It weighs the same as the Cabalerro Fantic 700cm3, which has the same engine as the Tenere 700. Rating : 3/5

I fully agree about the weight. For comparison, an XLR 500 weighs around 150 kg, an XR400 130 kg and the SR 500 150 kg.
A weight reduction of around twenty kilos would make it a perfect bike in this category.

Now it's time to try it out and see how it handles... maybe it's a success.

French Vinz63 Model 2024
I agree with the previous comments: the weight of a 400 is essential for having fun (static and dynamic handling, power-to-weight ratio, etc.). In short, you need to build a 400 at 140/150kg max for the bike to be truly enjoyable and at least a little versatile, and thus find its true audience. Rating : 3/5
French Moi-même Model 2024
Much too heavy for a mono 400. At least 25 kg too much. Knowing that it's a Triumph, they could have produced one with 30kg less weight Rating : 5/5
