presentation of the Rocket X Edition Speciale 2015
It's been 10 years since the Rocket III arrived on the motorcycle scene. An extraordinary machine, which no manufacturer has dared to challenge. Forget the Boss Hoss and the Rapom V8, totally surreal machines sailing in the ocean of the confidential. We're talking about Triumph, a brand that defies the Japanese with its Daytona and Street Triple, the Germans with its Tiger and Trophy, and the Americans with its Thunderbird.
And for the past decade, no one has dared to raise the bar on displacement, unreasonableness and vertigo. Only the Rocket boasts such cubic capacity, with the added bonus of its fetish engine. The 3-cylinder massacres reason with its 2294 cm3 and colossal 221 Nm torque, reached at just 2750 rpm. Horsepower and weight are no longer important, as the motorcycle expresses itself beyond the norm and beyond time.
Triumph is celebrating this decade of excess with the limited edition X; the Roman numeral is just as appropriate for the dark side of the beast as it is for this tenth anniversary. However, the celebration will be sober. No glitz, fireworks or bright colors. The Rocket X, like the Thunderbird Nightstorm, is completely immersed in darkness. But make no mistake. There's no question of simply smearing it in black. This is a special edition, so delicacy is the order of the day. Hinckley called on the renowned 8-ball workshop (which has already worked on the Daytona 675 Super III) to dress this lady of steel. The mudguards and fuel tank, for example, are adorned with a set of graphics evocative of metal torn from its material. Jet Black paint is then applied, followed by further fine-tuning: a two-day drying period, 6 coats of lacquer and two polishing phases to achieve a top-quality finish.
More black on the handlebars, windscreen, brake and selector pedals, exhausts and rims. The latter feature hand-laid silver edging. The Rocket X also boasts a machined aluminum badge, the one mounted on the oil tank, and a hollowed-out single-seater seat. Jealous of the Rocket?
To authenticate its membership of a select clan - only 500 will be made - a numbered aluminum plate is affixed to each side.
