presentation of the 1200 THRUXTON R 2016
At last, the café-racer we've been waiting for from Triumph. Fun to ride but underpowered when it came out with its 865 cm3 engine, the Thruxton finally expresses all the exhilaration and technique we've come to expect from a machine with so much character. We used to think of it as a bit of a Joe BAR Team; now we expect it to be a true sports bike, soaked in the whirlwind of the classic. Wattage, looks, racing equipment, wristband handlebars and a big 1200 under the tank - it smells of illegal racing in front of the ACE Café and the madness of British runs. The Triumph Thruxton 1200 R has truly become the top-of-the-range Bonneville with a sporty flavour.
its silhouette is perfect. Truly English without even needing to look at the brand name, a sporty escape from the past and poised like a bad boy ready for battle, the Thruxton R takes you into the dimension of Gentlemen Racers. Like the standard version, it's equipped with the all-new 1200 twin from the Bonneville, reworked for more power on the Thruxton. The basis is the same: a 270° twin-cylinder engine with 8 valves, fuel injection and Ride-by-Wire, 6-speed gearbox and anti-dribble clutch. The differences are more profound. Thruxtons benefit from a lightened crankshaft, increased compression ratio and special airbox. As a result, the mill produces more power, which you'll need to tap into at higher revs. 11.4 mkg are available at 4,950 rpm, i.e. half a mkg more than the 1200 Bonneville T 120, and 62% more than the old 900 Thruxton. Twenty kilos lighter than the Bonneville, the Thruxton R is also boosted by 17 extra horsepower. With 97 units in the twin, this café-racer does not usurp its identity and promises some great sporting moments.
but what really shakes the eye and the adrenalin is the R's specific equipment. A much more efficient set of suspension components, including Showa inverted forks and Öhlins rear shock absorbers. These components are fully adjustable, ensuring not only superior road feel but also a touch of extra elegance. In the same spirit, a painted backrest sportily finishes off the single-seater-style seat, the upper fork crown is polished, a strap runs around the fuel tank, the swingarm is anodized and the tapered exhausts are in brushed stainless steel.
The lady doesn't even pretend to be excited; she assumes her desires to the end. The spoked wheels are fitted as standard with Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires, the kind that smell more of the track than the road. Braking is also Italian. Brembo supplies the Thruxton 1200 R with a master cylinder, two discs and radial-mount 4-piston monobloc calipers.

The bike shows off its sporty dimension, while concealing mature technology beneath its classic exterior. On board, you'll find ABS, traction control, LED daytime running lights and taillights, a USB socket, coded key immobilizer, digital windows in the dual-meter displaying a wealth of information, and a choice of three fuel injection maps - Road, Rain and Sport - (the 1200 Bonneville has only two). The paroxism is reached with the "Track Racer" kit and its fork head, transforming this café-racer into a true sports bike of yesteryear. Triumph has provided two customization kits and a catalog of 160 parts for the SA Thruxton. However, only the R model will receive the additional "Factory Race" kit. Specially designed for the track, it will lighten the machine and tap the engine for more power (between 110 and 120 hp) and torque.

with the duo saddle, what do you think of it for weekend rides of 300km? feasible? or should we go for the bonneville t120 for that but with a less assertive character ..
thank you Rating : 5/5 Respond to jo
And the finish is top-notch. Thank you triumph Rating : 5/5 Respond to lolosp1
If you're into stoppies and wheeling: it's got the clutch, the brakes (with Brembo specificity: you have to prime) and Sport mode, which helps you get up to speed without calling on all the horsepower.
If you're a touring enthusiast, it's just beautiful and great, with a firm saddle, but are you in the café racer mood or not? !!!! Mine's Siver Ice with windscreen (to eliminate the headlight, which's a bit too round/deep for my taste).
In town it's a bike, but if you want to drop people off, it's a real winner!
I'm really happy with it, congratulations to the engineers and designers, they're going to make it a real pleasure to ride! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Cobby
