presentation of the 1050 Tiger Sport MKII 2016

a most interesting new episode for the Triumph 1050 Tiger Sport. A sporty trail bike since the 1200 Explorer took the reins of the Triumph GT adventure, this machine had a bit of an "ass between two chairs" until the recent advent of crossovers. Yesterday, it was too sporty for a trail, and too traily to be sporty... Today, it can trumpet and even boast between the segment's troublemakers, wedging itself squarely between the Yamaha Tracer and the BMW S 1000 XR. A benefactor upgrade for 2016 brings it response, marked added value, and full power.

admittedly, the concept of full power only applies to France, but the Tiger Sport is one of the first generation of machines to be able to let off steam freely on the roads. Euro4 has come and gone, which has led the British Tiger to benefit from a host of evolutions, straight from the new Speed Triple. And its enchanting 3-cylinder engine is a big part of Triumph's personality. Thoroughly revised for the roadster, this block will certainly be somewhat toned down to suit the Tiger's philosophy, but certainly not boring. With 126 horsepower and 11 mkg, there's no room for boredom in the Hinckley engine.
The? Sorry, THE engine behaviors. This redesign is accompanied by a generous injection of electronics. In addition to Ride-by-Wire, the 1050 Tiger Sport now offers 3 fuel injection maps. Are you a changeable, playful person? So is the Triumph trail bike. It evolves under the influence of the Rain, Road or Sport riding modes. Each has its own influence on engine response and traction control. This guard-rail is making its debut on the sporty trail bike, and is tending to spread to the whole range. And the motorcycle sector in general.
Still on the subject of thoughtfulness, a limited-slip clutch is fitted. Muscular riding enthusiasts will appreciate this, while tourers will be interested in other treats.

the 1050 Tiger thinks Sport, and for a ride that's both enjoyable and appreciated. It is equipped with cruise control, handguards, an adjustable bubble as standard and... Heated grips were announced as part of the package, but Triumph ultimately left them as an option. Let's come back to the bubble, with its clearly worked-out shapes, which sees its protection reinforced by two lateral and transparent appendices. The price is higher, thanks to this equipment and the reinforced electronics.
The chassis remains unchanged. The Tiger Sport does very well with its aluminum perimeter frame, inverted fork, Nissin 4-piston radial calipers, large 320 mm discs and superb single-sided arm. Last but not least, the seat has been modified for greater comfort, the mirrors have been revised, and the finish is more qualitative, with particular care given to various parts and day dresses.

Bought used in 2024 with 14,600 kms on my speed triple, I'm 69 years old, this bike is nothing but happiness comfort, engine, autonomy, really excellent ride this Triumph. C. D. Rating : 5/5

French Araky Model 2020
I'm 63, I've been through 4 triumphs. Daytona 955 speed 955 speed 1050 and now this 1050 tiger Sport. Apart from fitting an EMC. I love this bike. Considering my age. And fun everywhere. Rating : 5/5
French BocTNT Model 2020
I've had a 2018 model for 1 year
weak points: insufficient protection for all-weather road use, especially around the belly. high fuel consumption when using the full engine speed range. heavy vehicle and high weight. fragile matte black paint. the three driving modes are useless
strengths: engine flexibility. riding position (even if my legs are very bent for a trail bike. I'm only 1.72 m tall). full suspension adjustment. duo and load capacity (I've got a three-case shad pack)
Rating : 5/5
French Lolo Model 2019
Motorcycle purchased in August 2020 (new) 6,600 kms travelled. Comfortable. The engine has sufficient power. Torque is "satisfactory" (not as much as a first-generation 1200 Bandit). Reasonable fuel consumption. Fitted with panniers/top-case/cylinder guard/central stand/tank cover. Good tourer. Faults: slamming gearbox (2and3)??? Pirelli Angel ST tire, not great and wears out quickly (rear). Regret: the cardan shaft would have been perfect for this type of machine. I had hesitated with the 950 multistrada, the R1250R and even the V85. Defect of the latter: tubeless tires. Greetings biker. Lolo Rating : 4/5
GS too big, too ugly
KTM too rough, too high
Versus too heavy, too linear.
XR ... no torque
V store no engine
Multistrada empty at bottom
Stelvio not bad, but full of minor faults.
And then one day you try Triumph
A sporty engine in excellent comfort with good handling and fun from 2000 to 10000 rpm
For the past 4 years, I've been trying out friends' bikes, but I've never found this excellent compromise. I'm keeping my Tiger.

French Yves DC Model 2019
This bike is a real treat in terms of value for money. I added a center stand, additional headlights, comfort seat, top case and side cases... More expensive than a Tracer, livelier than a V-Strom and a Versys, less vibrant than a KTM 1090, and much cheaper than a Multistrada or a BM (XR or GS)... The GS is by far the best, but 30% more expensive... The Tiger Sport is the ideal compromise for me (173 cm). The ride-by-wire is top-notch, the torque magical, what a pleasure. The rear brake is a little light, and the original tires are unworthy... I opted for Dunlop Roadsmart IIIs, and that really makes a big difference. Rating : 5/5

French DOM56 Model 2020
It's been my best motorcycle since I got my license in 1983, and it's very versatile, with a super-smooth engine at low revs and watts from 6000 rpm
It's great for two-up travel (17500 km in 3 years), no problems at all, just happiness. Top quality/price.

French Sicestvrai Model 2019
At this price, a high bubble, center stand and heated grips should have been fitted as standard. I find the suspension of average quality, the passenger footrests too close to the rider's and the rear brake non-existent. I like its engine, even if some will criticize it for lacking a bit of oomph at the top of the rev counter. It's perfect for everyday use, whatever the type of road. The machine is comfortable, easy and considerate. It's not made for over-attacking, but still allows a nice pace. And, unlike a BMX 1000 XR, it doesn't push its rider to permanent crime. Rating : 4/5
French Tchafo Model 2019
Hello,

This machine is really pleasant both in terms
comfort and on the road. Very versatile
and with a more generous bubble (like Puig's), it's a total delight.

French Zorbek Model 2019
After testing the Ducati, I'd gladly recommend it. PS: the KTM Adventure 1050 (or 1090) seemed interesting too, but definitely too tall for me (1m74) and still less feline than the Tiger. Rating : 4/5
Le moteur est bon mais...
French Falken Model 2018
I had a Mk1 from 2014 to 2017, I was in turbulence with my 1.90 m but the max torque all the way down was top. The engine combined with an "SC Project" was an aural delight.

Unfortunately, I had 5 breakdowns in 3 years:
- 1 blinker out of order at 2,000 km
- 1 cracked hose at 3,500 km
- 1 cracked engine gasket at 8,000 km
- 1 rear wiring harness cut at 20,000 km
- 1 fuel gauge disconnected at 28,000 km.

While the first 4 breakdowns were covered by the warranty, the 5th, which occurred after 2 and a half years, was presented as "normal" because it wears out like the rest... After 30,000 km and 3 years of use, I said stop.

I refused to pay 250 euros for repairs and bought a Honda VFR 800 X in 2017.

The V-tec is fun, it's got a sporty feel that you like to engage when going for the revs, but I miss the maximum torque of the 3-leg at 4,300 rpm.

I'd still have this bike with the turning radius of an aircraft carrier if I hadn't had to take a beating.

Un Tiger Sport pour reprendre la moto ?
French jean-luc Model 2018
I'm going to start riding again after a 40-year break.
I'm looking for a handy machine (1.70m for 75kg), comfortable to ride solo or with my other half, easy to handle, powerful but above all not a bomb. In short, I'm looking for a grandpa who wants to have fun without being a dodo
Can this beautiful bike meet my expectations?
Thank you in advance for your comments.

French Yves
Hello Jean-Luc,
50 years old and owner of a Tiger Sport since 2016, I fell in love with it. With the low comfort seat that I recommend (I'm 173 cm tall and have 2 flat feet), it's really top notch. You just have to be careful when maneuvering at low speed, as the weight is quite high. As for the rest, it's an absolute joy to ride, allowing you to cover long distances (10-12 hours on the road). I'd also advise you to look for a different type of tire. In Belgium, they're the standard Pirelli STs, and not very good. I've fitted Roadsmart IIIs and the handling is better... Good luck!

Triumph mere indigne
Why such an old display when the tiger 800 has a coloured thing?
does it have cruise control?
what about the suspension?
i know the engine, I had a speed triple 1050 from 2012 and I'm still in love with it. But I think the tiger 1050 is a model that Triumph didn't take too much care of, preferring to invest in other models. It's a shame.

French Djidji88 Model 2018
Very comfortable, if I compare it with the BMW 1000xr and the 900 tracer, the gearbox is supple, now we just have to see how reliable it is, its behavior on small roads is very nice, Rating : 4/5

Hello everyone, can you confirm that heated grips are standard? There is no mention of them in the manual as to their presence/functioning. Thank you :) Rating : 5/5

My answer is: not standard (confirmed by my test ride at the dealership)

As far as I'm concerned, a great bike that will replace my 2006 Sprint ST 1050 in a few weeks :)

French Si c\'est vrai
I went the same way, replacing a 2009 Sprint ST whose position I could no longer stand. An excellent machine that's not widely available and yet attracts the eye of motorcyclists. I installed a high bubble and front and rear fender extensions. The front end, however, offers poor protection in rainy conditions. The complaints are few and far between: the engine is less torquey down low than the old one, the original tires have no feel and are unpleasant to angle, and the rear brake is almost non-existent. In absolute terms, the top of the fairing could include storage space. All in all, an ideal machine for swallowing up kilometers without fatigue and without having to stow away in 1200RT Rating : 4/5
Une pure merveille !
French Sam91 Model 2017
I ride it every day. I never tire of it. I can't wait to take it on long trips with my wife...
One thing puzzles me: why isn't such a good bike more common on our roads? Could it be because of the immoderate taste of the French for niponnes? In any case, for those who are looking for a sporty GT with character, but not too much. This English car will make you shiver with pleasure...

Hello, I couldn't agree more. I had the 2010 1050 and now the 2014 Sport.
With 75000 km now, I'm hesitating to get a new 2018. I'm just a little afraid they'll come out with a new, even better model next year... It's a great bike and, like you, I'm looking forward to getting back on the road with my other half.
Best regards and happy riding.
