presentation of the Tiger 900 2020
Make no mistake, this Tiger 900 is just the tree that hides the forest. A nursery of variations to satisfy every trail enthusiast's desires. English sauce, of course. More than an update, it's a major overhaul that allows Triumph to consolidate its gains, assert its enhanced potential and growl at the competition.
It's also an opportunity to do away with the coded names that accompanied each version. Between XR, XC, XCx, XYoupi and DBZ, it was a bit tricky to simply grasp the differences between each. Now, it's easy to see which of GT, GT Pro, Rally or Rally Pro has the capabilities to seduce. Except for those looking for the simplest road trail. So we start with the most accessible, the basic model in the family. But although Triumph presents its 900 Tiger without adjectives, it's far from basic.
It's all about evolution, about more and more. As if there were no respite from the upward shift. A word the Tiger refuses to imagine. Just like its 3-cylinder engine. Had it been living in its 800 cm3 for too long? Had it lost its enthusiasm? None of the above, except that it's time to move on. A pinch more bore, almost 4 mm, and the displacement climbs to 888 cm3 - hence the new 900 name. A good way to pass Euro5 without choking too much. But don't be fooled by the power figures. Yesterday in 800, today in 900, the medium-displacement Tiger spits out the same 95 horsepower.
True, and false. This maximum power is available earlier, 750 rpm ahead of the rev counter. Torque is the main winner, with a gain of almost 1 mkg. From 79 Nm at 8,050 rpm, the three-stroke increases to 87 Nm. Obtained at a lowered rpm of 800. All good for boosting acceleration and block availability. Despite its 70 Kw, this Tiger can't be bridled in A2 - Triumph preferred to offer this option for models higher up the range.
The 800 Tiger engine suited them very well. Hinckley felt, however, that a little more character wouldn't hurt. In concert with its fever pitch, it changes ignition sequence with a 1 - 3 - 2 score. More sound, more feedback and more availability are the expected benefits.
In addition to the new engine internals, Triumph has also changed the airbox, redesigned the radiators and moved the thruster forward in the frame.

She's proud, and she shows it. Her eyes have deepened dramatically, while her torso has become more dynamic. A new LED signature displays the brawl. Underneath, a class-appropriate duckbill takes its place on all versions, whereas it was reduced to an insidious presence on the road-going XR & co versions of the Tiger 800. The rider's torso is slightly straightened, the handlebars having been moved back 10 mm. The seat is slightly narrower, making it easier to put your feet on the ground.
As this is an entry-level model, the Tiger's presence is tempered in order to steer the interested party towards more upscale, richer and more expensive versions. As a result, there's no sophisticated suspension (only adjustable amorto preload), no cornering ABS, no handguards and a limited choice of colors. Not to say unique.
Yet this Triumph trail bike is far from moribund. Not only is it the lightest of its siblings, it also boasts two riding modes (Rain and Road), traction control, a 5" color TFT display (7" on other Tiger 900 models), a height-adjustable seat, full LED lighting, power-assisted clutch, Marzocchi components including a 45 mm inverted fork and Brembo Stylema calipers. An exceptional braking package for this type of machine.
The Triumph 900 Tiger boasts a new identity, a revamped engine for greater character and efficiency, and a whole host of goodies. Most of which have been reserved for its larger siblings. The name seems to come from the T430 of the twentieth century, as the bike enters the third decade of the millennium. With conviction.

First of all, congratulations to the marketing department for simplifying and clarifying the designations. With the model number, you immediately know what you're talking about. In use, it's positive, although there are a few criticisms to make: - I find the engine noisy, or at least I find that the noise from the moulding comes up a lot. -What's the idea of transforming a 3-cylinder into a twin?! No doubt the trail rider wants a twin, but since Triumph's essence is 3 cylinders, they invented the T-Plane. I want to know who came up with the idea for the crappy rev counter. There's a huge TdB that doesn't display much because of those wings that symbolize the rev counter.
- And the navigation, whose idea was that? It's useless! Did anyone come up with the idea of testing it before it went on sale? - The translation of the menus was probably done by a kid on a 3rd grade internship. Translate "Range" by "Plage" ... I guess he played splash-splash between Range and Plage... We could have told him that there were sub-menus, because behind "Devices" you come across "Rider device" or "Pillion device" ... Not everything is negative, far from it: The engine is lively, supple. The bike is light. The equipment is plentiful: I've got heated grips+seat, cruiser, shifter. Stylema is a class act! With its suspension travel, I was expecting a rocking horse. Not so, with a little brake from the rear. In short, a happy biker. Rating : 4/5 Respond to totor
