presentation of the 250 Duecinquanta 2018
That was yesterday, and yet... It's hard enough to remember the shrill screams of the 2-stroke on the Continental Circus. I'm not even talking about the smoky, bluish screeches of machines blessed in their day. Kawasaki KR-1S, Yamaha 350 RDLC, Suzuki RGV, Aprilia RS... Forget it, forget it! Unless your nose, in search of the smell of castor beans, wanders off to Maranello. There, 900 meters from Ferrari, is the small brand Vins Motor. In its workshop, the cylinder with holes survives once again, to offer its screams and performance to the 250 Duecinquanta.
A 2-stroke sports car today is as rare as a good measure of road safety. But infinitely more exhilarating. At Vins, the engine is a 249 cm3 twin-cylinder with a 90° angle. With ribs measuring 54 x 54.5 mm, it solves the tricky problem of fuel consumption and, above all, pollution, with ad hoc programmed direct injection. Bearing in mind that the Competizione version (288 cm3) produces 75 hp, it's safe to assume that the power output of this road-going version will be in the region of 60 hp. That's a pretty serious figure for an engine of this displacement (a Kawa 4-stroke bi 400 produces 45 hp). To some, this power would seem modest compared with the 200 hp that has become the norm among hypersports. But that's not the essence of this Duecinquanta. Apart from its character and the specific use of its engine technology, it weighs half as much as the monsters of the track.

In the end, with the track version weighing in at 99 kilos, we estimate the Sport at 109 kilos. Which is still quite a performance. Even with a rider on it, it will still be lighter than 95% of other sports bikes. This prodigy is due to its frame, which combines an aluminum frame with a carbon monocoque structure. This material is used extensively, as it is also used for most of the swingarm, the wheels, the cladding, and for the arms of the surprising Fior-type fork. Vins paid particular attention to suspension. In addition to the unconventional front axle, the rear shock absorber is transverse. This would improve its performance once the bike is on an angle.

The Italian doesn't stop there when it comes to design and optimization. It features an extractable gearbox, improved cooling via upper air ducts leading directly to the radiator built into the frame structure, a TFT screen dashboard and a host of beautiful machined aluminum parts. A true enthusiast's bike, the Duecinquanta is also a true enthusiast's bike in terms of price. Don't expect less than 40,000 euros on the price sheet.
