presentation of the Tracer 7 GT III 2026
Operation Major Change for the Tracer 7! Now more than ever, Yamaha's urban crossover has to maintain its strengths and add a new layer to its already seasoned, but increasingly numerous, competition. Its best rivals are still with us - Kawasaki 650 Versys, Suzuki 650 V-Strom, Honda NC 750 X, Triumph 660 Tiger Sport - but there's a lot of competition from new contenders, such as the CFMOTO 700 MT, Morini 700 X-Cape, QJ Motor SRX 700, Voge DS 625 X, Phelon & Moore Capetown 7S... and the list is set to grow over the next few years.
In short, the little Tracer needs to make itself more desirable and make up for its shortcomings. It has understood this perfectly, with a skilfully renewed silhouette. The look and fork head are more serious, the shoulders more dynamic with their "double cladding", the seat sportier by splitting into two parts. All of which adds up to a look worthy of a top-class motorcycle. Yamaha's trend seems to be away from the experimental and towards the technical and graceful.
Like the Y-AMT robotic clutch. When the third generation was released in mid-2025, we were a little surprised not to see this technology on the Tracer - "It would look particularly good on a machine with the GT badge on its sides." The 2026 offering fills this gap with the option of this semi-automatic transmission. A flick of the finger on the gearshift paddle and the gears change in half a second. Or, the rider switches to fully automatic mode and the Y-AMT handles everything. Clutch, gear changes, neutral... no need to touch the clutch lever. Besides, it doesn't exist on the Yam' Y-AMT.
You have to expect an extra two kilos and a nice "purple" to have this assistance on the Tracer 7. The price then becomes hefty, even if the GT label raises the expectations.
A clear increase in equipment at all levels
This more enhanced presence is reinforced by a front end of a different calibre. The Tracer 7 GT is now guided by a 41 mm inverted fork with adjustable rebound damping. Technical improvements to the chassis also include 4-piston radial brake calipers and a new swingarm 40 mm longer. This will enable the machine to take its road manners up a notch.
Road-holding has a stronger meaning here, as this Tracer is designed for everyday use, with milestones as well as urban conditions. Since the Tracer 7, the GT comes standard with heated grips with 3 levels of adjustment, a center stand, rubberized footrests, a seat with thicker padding and specific upholstery - resulting in a 15 mm increase in seat height - a duo of panniers and a specific windscreen.
The windscreen, adjustable over 6 cm, is a strong statement. Thicker by 1 mm, it offers 90 mm more protection in height. With a wider upper section than on theprevious Tracer 7 GT, it should really boost protection.
As for the panniers, they are of the very latest generation. Since the birth of the Tracer 7 GT, these have been City models, with designs dating from the late 90s. With the addition of the Tour models from the Tracer 9 GT, carrying capacity has jumped from 20 to 30 liters per luggage compartment. They can now hold a helmet, but their bulk has also increased.

Not all up to scratch either
The GT is progressing at the same pace as its sister, the Tracer 7, and its cousin, the MT-07. However, there's still some work to be done in certain areas. The handguards may be a little larger, but they still favor style over function. Enough to protect your knuckles, but not much more. We also need to find a better way of hiding that horrible catalyst. And above all... Where's the luggage rack? For a GT-oriented machine, it's surprising to see this appendage removed from the standard equipment.
Also surprising is the absence of SpinForged lightweight wheels and Y-AMT automatic gearbox technology. These would be particularly well suited to a machine sporting GT on its flanks.
Instead, the 700 Tracer gets other updates, such as ride-by-wire throttle, three riding modes (Sport/Street/Custom), the last of which is customizable, three engine maps, two-stage deactivatable traction control, cruise control, a revamped interface for the 5" color TFT screen, and new indicators and brake light functions.
And that's not all. Yamaha increases range with a one-liter fuel tank (18 liters), and fine-tunes life on board with handlebars that are 25 mm wider and 30 mm higher, an adjustable seat, a larger seat for the passenger (40 mm), revised grips, remote preload adjustment for the rear shock and redesigned footrests.
A 690 cm3 twin that fits like a glove
As for the engine, it's this enthusiastic CP2 engine that retains its functions in the Tracer. Yam has validated it for Euro5+ and does not consider it necessary to revise its displacement or power. This block may be over 10 years old, but it still holds its own against other powerplants, thanks to an extremely pleasant punch and joviality. As a result, its character is more memorable than its 73 hp. Both are invigorating in use, letting the years roll by without a tremor.

In its transformation, the Tracer 7 GT has gained just 2 kilos. At 212 kg fully loaded, this on-road crossover shows a restrained weight and a real determination to maintain its place in the market. Yamaha has not simply given it a facelift, but has made a significant evolution. On the other hand, the price indexation is likely to make you smile less.
