presentation of the 1670 ROAD STAR WARRIOR 2005

It's a customs revolution. There were already these big machines with imposing - often anemic - mills; now, there have to be watts. A lot of watts, even if it means even more cm3. Which manufacturer fired the first shot? Surely the one that has seen the most dragsters at U.S. events. Is it Honda with its 1800 VTX, or Harley with its astonishing V-rod? Or maybe it was Kawa who set the ball rolling with its 1500 Mean Streak... Who cares, as long as we get more for ourselves? In any case, for Yamaha, it does matter, and the proof is here, with this impressive Road Star Warrior. A motorcycle that interprets the segment's aesthetic standards in its own way. Long, black and chrome-accented, not shy or even intimidating, the Warrior doesn't go unnoticed. With its "bad boy" look, it's easy to imagine Ice Cube or Vin Diesel on its handlebars, looking for uppercuts. And uppercuts, this machine has what it takes. The V2 derived from the Wild Star is enlarged to 1670 cm3 by increasing the diameter of its pistons and cylinders by 2 mm. It gains fuel injection, a good handful of horsepower and more torque than a Hayabusa... but much sooner. And if that's all there was to it... When it comes to looks, the Japanese haven't cut any corners. On the left, there's a gaping air intake to cool the cylinders. On the right, it's the armory. The muffler would be a hit with the G.I.s - a real missile-launching tube. If the bike still looks like a custom, it's something else on closer inspection. The frame is of the same design as the Wild, but in aluminum, making it lighter and stiffer. As for the front axle, it belongs to another world. Inverted forks and R1 calipers, no less. The rear is no exception, with a sporty swingarm and LED taillight. Yam's ideas are far ahead of their time. Their big baby is not only destined to smash things between 2 red lights, but also to offer the rider a great ride.

Green. The agitated bowls are not just beasts of power. The smooth operation of the twin, combined with the velvety clutch, prove that the Warrior knows all the right moves. However, theYAMAHA 1670 ROAD STAR WARRIOR twin needs only a crumb of enthusiasm to deliver the big punch. A flick of the wrist and the cannonball is off. There's nothing brutal about it, just an immediate reaction enhanced by good old-fashioned American-style vibrations. There's plenty of horsepower in the pistons, and the cavalry sounds the charge at the slightest solicitation.
This is where the Yam really impresses. With so much power, you want to play in the curves and not just do stop-and-go. And there's no mistaking it: this machine is the sports bike of customs. Despite weighing in at 300 kg, it's surprisingly agile, with roadholding on a par with its predecessors, and, best of all, you really have to angle it to get the footpegs to rub. a welcome change from the competition, where sparks fly at the slightest traffic circle.
The one thing that shouldn't be invited is the driving position. With arms outstretched, footrests well forward, and back broken in two, you may look like a warrior, but you're thankful for the slightest break. What's even more annoying is that the suspension comfort isn't bad at all.
Yamaha hasn't presented yet another custom-dragster. It's more versatile, sportier and more rigorous in its handling than the competition. The fact remains that you'll have to savor this pleasure on your own (attempting a duo is tantamount to divorce). And the Road Star Warrior gives you pleasure with every piston stroke.
