presentation of the TDM 850 2001
the TDM is a special case in motorcycle production. Half road bike, half trail bike, even a little sport bike, we've never been able to decide which category to place it in.
like the big trail bikes, it offers a comfortable, natural riding position and an obvious grip. From the tourer, it takes on the ability to take you up and down hills at a steady pace, as well as a good-sized fuel tank for long stages. Strange or ingenious, this concept has turned out to be a real success story.
the large perimeter frame contains the 850 TRX 's revised twin between its spars. Its pitch is increased from 360° to 270°, simulating a 90° V2.
the engine offers a good dose of thrills and character. Perhaps a little hollow at low revs, it has nothing to be ashamed of in terms of performance. Compared to the first versions, the TDM has improved its handling and gained in precision. The only imperfection is the gearbox, which is dry and noisy. That aside, the bike is a formidable all-rounder, which many motorcyclists have appreciated and continue to appreciate.

It still attracts new drivers
On the negative side, it requires a lot of oil, and there's no center stand
A real shame! All in all, it's a great bike, pleasant and easy to handle. Rating : 4/5 Respond to AR 83
Wasn't the TDM the initiator of the road trail segment, which cannibalized custom, sports, GT and ...... models?
The TDM was 20 years ahead of its time
this bike has lost none of its potential: a good, reliable engine, very honest comfort and a look that's out of step with the production of the time, and which seems almost wise today
a good bike Rating : 5/5 Respond to volpone
For me, H4 in 100 watts is better. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
Yes, I had the same problem.
It's not the carburetors but the box that lets the gas through when the engine's running.
It's under the seat, just behind the fuel tank.
You tap it a few times
times, and hey presto, it's unlocked.
Yes, they're old now.

More than decent pavement handling, pleasant comfort whether riding solo or as a duo, and it's not ridiculous on the road at 4 grams..
Its only faults are lamentable mechanics for a bike just fitted with a fork head, and oil consumption that's a tad excessive... Rating : 5/5 Respond to bonnie boy
