presentation of the YZF-R1 1000 2006
...is a perpetual quest whose stylistic limit Yamaha has come dangerously close to. It's quite simple: the brand with the 3 tuning forks hasn't dared touch the R1 's styling, as it has reached such a high level of beauty and notoriety (at Ducati, we call it the 916 syndrome).
for the 2006 version, the only visible changes will be the color scheme, with a more pronounced gold color on the fork covers, the absence of inlaid patterns on the clutch housing, the forced-air ducts painted the same color as the fairing, and the black coloring of the exhaust protectors. And it looks so good, you'd think Yam would have been wrong to touch it.
the bulk of the work therefore focused on the beast's innards. On the engine side, 3 hp have been gained, and among the most notable modifications are the use of shorter intake valve guides to increase air intake flow. Also worthy of mention are the revised clutch nut and smoother air intake ducts.
The chassis remains the 5th-generation Deltabox, with a significantly modified structure. By adjusting thickness in strategic places, this die-cast aluminum frame is lighter, easier to handle and just as rigid as its predecessor.
The swingarm has been lengthened (+20 mm) and its support points have been changed. So have the motor's anchoring points. And that's not to mention the 1% shift in weight distribution to the front, the new lower fork crown, the on-board stopwatch, the modified timing chain tensioner... Oh yes, I just told you about that.
this new R1 now develops 175 static hp and has probably lost a few grams. A very nice bonus of this 2006 version is the appearance of 2 special series. On my left, 500 R1 SPs with Öhlins suspension will appear; on my right, a "racing yellow" livery celebrating Yamaha's 50th anniversary, with decoration inspired by machines from the 70s and 80s.
