presentation of the MT-09 850 Faster Sons - Faster Wasp - 2015
following in the footsteps of Shinya Kimura, Roland Sands has taken things up a notch and collaborated with Yamaha to open a new chapter in the "Faster Sons" story. He has taken all the emblematic elements of Yamaha's Sport Heritage and boosted them with a healthy dose of purely sporting features.
The result: an impressive machine paying homage to Kenny Roberts' iconic TZ 750 in an instantly recognizable yellow and black "Wasp" color scheme. Based on the MT-09, equipped with Yamaha's latest 850 cm3 in-line 3-cylinder engine and a lightweight aluminum frame, the "Faster Wasp" splits the air and shelters its powerful performance under a Vintage fairing.
This design features numerous Roland Sands Designs parts, such as the hand-built aluminum fuel tank, rear section, intake scoops, radiator gills, nameplate and mudguard. There's also a prototype Clarity shim cover, prototype foot pegs, a rear brake fluid reservoir and prototype covers. The chain guard, ignition switch cap, axle tubes and fuel tank cap are also all RSD prototypes.
The "Faster Wasp" is mounted on RSD Morris forged aluminum wheels (17 x 3.5" front and 17 x 6.0" rear) fitted with Dunlop Q3 tires. Two Bros Racing stainless-steel headers and RSD Slant muffler provide the tricylinder's roar. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via Renthal sprockets, and braking power comes from a combination of RSD custom superbike front brake rotors, Performance Machine radial calipers, RSD radial master cylinder and Spiegler brake shoes.
An RSD clutch cable pole and Barnett clutch cable help maintain gear control and, thanks to the RSD Nostalgia handlebar riser, Renthal FATbar and RSD Traction grips, the rider is in complete control of his machine. A front fork cartridge kit and Öhlins rear shock optimize stability, and Samco cooling ducts discreetly underline the racing aspect.
The striking look of the "Faster Wasp" is perfectly crafted, with a custom Bitchin Seat Co. leather saddle, and the black/yellow color scheme of Airtrix and Cerakote from Specialized Coatings.
