presentation of the 125 ZS-R 2004
ever heard of Zongshen? No, but you'll remember a certain red Suzuki GSX-R 1000 that competed in the World Endurance Championship. Still not... And yet, this is one of Asia's leading motorcycle manufacturers. If we don't know much about it in Europe, it's precisely because it sells mainly... in Asia.
the ZSR is the manufacturer's first to arrive in France. While it doesn't revolutionize the genre, it is very attractive and extremely well-priced. For less than €2,500, this urban roadster is no slouch when it comes to merchandise. Attractive lines and a slightly sporty look, small fork head, mini engine mount, center stand, 2 disc brakes, package holder, ultra-complete instrument panel with rev counter, reserve indicator, voltmeter and even a gear indicator (for 2005, this will only be seen on this bike and on the new GSX-R 1000 and ZX-6R)... With all this, you'd think they'd have cut corners on the engine and put a plastic mill running on adulterated fuel in the frame. But no!
the Chinese mono-engine is a 4-valve with double ACT that develops just over 12 bhp. Although it's not as powerful as the category's top performers (led by the MZ RT), it can be smooth in town, but just as spirited when the going gets tough. The ZSR's chassis ensures liveliness and precision, but the roadside peripherals don't serve it to best advantage: starting with the tires, which are frankly average. Then there are the shocks, which aren't great either. And last but not least, the forks. Sharing the same fault as the Honda CG, it can't cope with heavy braking. On this point, the single front disc does rather well. Very affordable, fuel-efficient, comfortable and very well-powered, the Zongshen ZSR promises to be one hell of a bargain. You'll just have to make do with outdated damping and tires, as well as an interminable 5th gear.

i bought this bike in Switzerland for 3000CHF (about 2000 Euros). What's more, I do more than 500 kilometers on a single tank of gas! It's true that it's not the best bike in the world, but the value for money is excepionnel
