presentation of the RS 125 2025

It's hard to imagine the Aprilia range without the little RS 125. So, it gets its Euro5+ pass and stays on the market. But when the engineers got their hands on the engine, they decided to install (deactivatable) traction control. But what for? It's hard to see the point of this steering aid on a 15-horsepower motorcycle. Anyway.... Let's just enjoy this cute little bike, proud of its siblings.

Aprilia is the only Italian manufacturer to perpetuate the racing spirit through a 125cc sports bike. In the heart of the Veneto region, we know that motorcycling can be perfected right from the smallest displacement. So what trump cards did we give this little RS?

competence in the eyes, reason in the heart

The style of the RS 660 has spread throughout the manufacturer's machines. The resemblance is not as marked as with the RSV4, but the eyes are sufficiently refined to give it more speed in the eyes. Between the new decals, the positioning of the indicators in the headlights and that little viper's face, the impression of sportiness is such that we belatedly realize that everything else has not evolved since theEx-RS.

For sure, Aprilia wasn't going to "margouliner" by just changing the costume. Cornering behavior is convincing, with a 140 mm wide rear tire. The Bosch ABS is 2-channel, the half-handlebars are not too high to soften the riding position, and the aluminum frame, footrests, fork and engine are painted to a high quality.

The single-cylinder engine is up to standard and delivers the maximum possible power. As a 4-stroke and by law, it's always 15 horsepower on tap; except that this maximum is available a little later with E5+. As is the torque. The transmission relies on a 58-tooth crown gear for respectable acceleration performance.

Budding young riders will be delighted. What's more, they can install a shifter (optional) to tease the gearbox. This part, a symbol of performance and riding comfort, first appeared on the previous generation RS 125. It's the same as the perimeter frame, inverted fork, 300 mm brake disc with 4-piston radial caliper and asymmetrical swingarm. The tires are Michelin (Pilot Street).

Back to the obvious. Once the controls are in the rider's hands and the single-cylinder is bellowing, the main focus is on trajectories, and a little on the instrument panel: an all-LCD window. In addition to information such as speed, rpm, battery voltage, time, mileage, engine temperature and fuel level, the display can be either blue or white. Another visit to the options section allows you to add the Aprilia MIA multimedia platform, to connect your smartphone and discover new functionalities.

The RS 125 also recalls its prestigious heritage. 54 world championship titles. Twenty of them in the 125 category, with 2-stroke machines that are now just memories. Today, enough time has passed for the new drivers of this RS 125 to avoid nostalgia for the engine of yesteryear. Regret is out of the question, and it's time for action. We think it's badass, we weld it on, and we'll see what happens next.
