With its Tuono V4 1100 RR, Aprilia has one of the most formidable roadsters in production. In terms of sheer power, only the KTM 1290 Superduke R stands up to it - and the Brutale 1000 Oro, albeit in a more high-end range.
Enough to rip off arms, roads, times and sensations. Like many other machines, the Tuono had to pass the Euro4 standard, and there's something for everyone. The constraints are respected and the beast improved.
Let's see what Aprilia has cooked up in the V4 pot. As far as pollutant emissions are concerned, an exhaust system with dual oxygen probes ensures compliance with quotas. The Tuono has gained a more powerful ECU, authorizing an increased maximum speed of 500 rpm. The combustion chambers have been redesigned and the gearbox has a new sensor. The ride-by-wire control has been simplified compared to the previous generation, saving 590 grams. General relief: watts have been entirely preserved; torque is even up by 1 Nm.
With the exception of its larger displacement, the V4 is no different from that of the sports car. So it can shamelessly steal its electronics. And it does.
First of all, to acquire the Bosch multi-axis inertial unit for better perception of dynamic reactions. Then, to update the 3 fuel injection maps (Sport, Track, Race). Finally, the APRC package, comprising :
- ATC: traction control, adjustable over 8 positions, refined and more efficient.
- AWC: in-house anti-wheeling, adjustable on 3 levels, now much more precise thanks to the IMU.
- ALC: Aprilia Launch Control, the stop-start assistant. Adjustable on 3 levels and even more effective.
- AQS: the Aprilia Quick Shift shifter, which now allows both upshifting and downshifting without touching the clutch.
- APL: Aprilia Pit Limiter, for selecting and limiting the maximum speed allowed in the pit lane; or, as an accessory, to comply with the speed limits posted on the road.
- ACC: cruise control. The new electronic management system makes it possible to maintain a set speed without having to use the throttle.
- The braking package is completed by Cornering ABS technology. It works in conjunction with rear wheel lift mitigation (RLM) to guarantee stability and efficiency during deceleration. Adjustable to 3 levels and disconnectable.

The transfusion doesn't stop there. The Tuono also features the ultra-modern TFT instrument panel. Sporty in color, with no frills, and packed with information, it's a veritable little tablet. Two display modes are available: road or track. As an option, you can add the V4-MP platform. A multimedia package that connects the bike to your smartphone, retrieves telemetry data and lets you adjust settings. This function provides real-time suggestions and advice on how to get the most out of the track. Thanks to Aprilia's simulation technology, it's possible to parameterize the ideal lap settings for each circuit, according to the rider's different levels of grip and performance. The application analyzes the rider's behavior in real time and provides assistance, indicating, for example, the need to brake or the possibility of accelerating.
Because the Tuono V4 1100 R can do much more than just make up the numbers on the racetrack. Let's not forget that today's big roadsters have the power of yesterday's hypersports. When it comes to efficiency, the Aprilia wants to raise the bar even higher by improving its braking. Brake discs have been enlarged to 330 mm (+10 mm) and are now gripped by Brembo M50 calipers. A new radial master cylinder drives this fine equipment.
The chassis still uses an aluminum perimeter frame, as on the RSV4-RR, with Sachs suspension. A 43 mm inverted fork and monoshock, also taken from the sports bike. Don't look for it... the Tuono is a stripped-down sports bike, giving back only a few horsepower and a different handlebar profile than the Superbike from Noale.
Experienced riders and/or fans of high-end damping will be tempted by the Factory version, featuring Öhlins elements - semi-active since 2019...
Optimized, the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR is the master of sporty roadsters. It takes a strong heart to push its big 4-cylinder V engine to the limit. Fortunately, the chassis and electronics have been further improved. A machine with a strong temperament, whose limits are hard to find. But what a temptation!

On the other hand, having tried a 2015 RR not even in full and a 2016 Factory in full, I agree with you that the V4 is demonic !!!!

More violent than the Superduke. And therefore the exact opposite of the Mt01, for those who remember. The Yam remains the most impressive roadster, physically speaking. Bestial. On the other hand, the performance (I had one in my time) of the "old-style" twin-cylinder didn't exceed that of a CB500... The Aprilia is the exact opposite: all for performance, nothing for show.
