The Tuono has finally formed a real family, growing in displacement and power along with experience. The big 1100 V4 leads the way with its fearsome firepower and imperial chassis; the 660 shakes up the mid-size roadster sector; the 125 opens the doors of this clan to A1s, youngsters and grunts. With the general overhaul of the Aprilia range, the smallest Tuono is getting a facelift, both in terms of looks and mechanics.

It's all about image, riding the wave launched by the RS 660. It was this model that introduced Noale's new face. The Tuono 125 also draws inspiration from the RS and Tuono 660 to give itself a new look. But it retains certain features of the old look, such as the separation of the headlamps. The slimmer headlamps, incorporating the turn signals, are LED. The look is all the more mutinous. There's a new hoof, new color schemes and more black-painted elements (frame, engine, foot controls, lower forks). As for the rest of the machine, everything is taken from the previous model.

Except for the mill. A little updating won't do it any harm. By law, you can't get more than 15 horsepower out of it, but you can make the horse's calf rounder. First of all, we're going to put a catalytic converter in its hoof to help it pass Euro5. Next, we'll be making improvements in a number of areas: new Magneti-Marelli MIUG4 ECU, modified camshafts, iridium spark plug, redesigned combustion chamber, revised intake and exhaust ducts, new air filter, repositioned throttle valve and redesigned exhaust. The 4-valve, double-acting single-cylinder gains a little more torque, a little earlier peak power and greater availability. The final drive has been lengthened by the addition of a 58-tooth crown gear, which should have a noticeable impact on throttle response (according to the manufacturer).
A shifter is also available as an option for the more adventurous riders.

Few changes to the chassis. For some time now, the Tuono 125 has boasted the same equipment as its RS 125 sibling. With a perimeter frame made of aluminum spars, a 40 mm inverted fork, a 300 mm front disc + 4-piston radial caliper, and an asymmetrical swingarm also in aluminum, this little roadster is a real savoir-vivre. The new version takes efficiency a step further, with a 10 mm wider rear tire (now 140 mm), Michelin tires and new Bosch ABS.

What more is needed to please the community? The Tuono hasn't played all its cards. It already had an optional USB port and under-seat storage. The latter has grown to accommodate an 8-inch tablet. The dashboard has also changed completely. An all-digital LCD panel (no TFT yet) houses all the information, a choice of white or blue lighting, and the possibility of adding the Aprilia MIA platform (optional) - this allows you to connect a smartphone to the bike, to control it and get more information from the machine.

More evenly distributed power, a few chassis tweaks, a Tuono V4 face mixed with the 660, and a clear willingness to let off steam - the ^1/8th-literTuono is definitely part of the family. It shows itself to be one of the sportiest in its class. But don't be over-optimistic. If it can forget about the Chinese competition, its Japanese and Austrian rivals are on the same level.
