presentation of the 1100 DB6 DELIRIO 2009

how could anyone have chosen a name other than "Delirio" for this surprising roadster? From the tip of the headlight to the triangular exhausts, the impact is total. Hyper-aggressive, muscular, sharp, the styling of the DB6 Delirio is even more pronounced than that of the sporty DB5 from which it derives. But the latter looks almost gentle by comparison.

Yet roadsters are not Bimota's specialty. The last roadster to come out of the Italian factory, the DB3 Mantra, dates back to 1995. And like it, the DB6 borrows Ducati's large air-cooled desmo engine. At the time, it was a 900; as part of its evolution, the DB6 borrowed the Monster's 1000. A year later, the 1100 took its place, with a few more horsepower and a hefty extra mkg. But does this Rimini creation have the same Bologna temperament?
Que nenni! which is not to say that Bimota is conformist. The twin is the only thing that seems to be borrowed from the series. Everything else in the Delirio seems to have been created in a moment of madness by a single designer, intended solely for a particular soul. Here, each piece sets its own conditions. After the eye, it's the ear that reaches for the anti-friction Marzocchi inverted fork, the tubular steel frame and swingarm, and the furious pots that fan the rear of the machine... all on the lookout for the slightest call to "Start us up - take us on a ride to the exceptional!

BIMOTA DB6 DELIRIOThe fork head, a sort of madman's mask, houses only the speedometer, taken from the DB5. Almost superfluous on such a stripped-down machine, which oscillates between nakedness and protruding angles. As always at Bimota, the key words are design, innovation and passion. Yet on this Delirio, only the swingarm is a concept seen nowhere else. The other technical solutions are well known, but not completely popularized: an inverted fork with magnificent radial brake caliper mounts, new wave brake tracks, a tiny size and a contained weight (170 kg). Apart from its dazzling design, the DB6's other assets are its impeccable finish and the attention to detail that permeates every detail. That's what it's going to take to keep the... hefty price tag down.

The DB6 is as ugly in photo as it is beautiful in reality. The image crushes the lines and hides the finish.
