presentation of the R 1150 R Rockster 2005

A BMW roadster that would stand up to a comparo against a Triumph Speed Triple or a Kawasaki Z 1000 or a Ducati monster... improbable?!? Not so sure. Without coming close to such strong identities, BM is trying to reach a new clientele with its R 1150 R roadster by transforming it into a machine with a more villainous look. Fun colors bordering on manga, black paint in profusion on the chassis components, bulging double headlights... it's shocking, but it's fun. To make the bike even more agile, the big BM roadster has swapped its front axle for that of the sporty R 1100 S, now controlled by a wide Supermotard-style handlebar.

BMW R 1150 R Rockster once in the saddle, even though you're still riding a BM, the riding position quickly becomes Supermotard-like, especially as the machine proves surprisingly agile. The rider doesn't have to fight to reach a frenzied pace, and can ride serenely while winding up efficiently and devilishly, the chassis/framework equation being a feast of balance. We still appreciate the suppleness and good health of the flat-twin, but as the pace quickens with rogue driving, we come to expect a little more extension and horsepower. The Rockster is a scoundrel that retains most of the qualities of the BM roadster - unless it's the other way around!

top bike! i've been riding it for 4 months now. it's got great road holding (RaceTech RR tires) and extreme stability on any surface. it gives the rider confidence from the very first kilometres. it's suitable for all types of riding. personally, i'm a sporty rider and it's a real pleasure to ride. i'll soon have to change the calle-pieds^^ a real pleasure. it just needs a few more horsepower (85hp standard) Rating : 5/5

a motorcycle for distracted, ageing intellectuals who like big torque and originality: you can stop looking where you put your wheels (in the countryside), brake on a par with cars in the Paris region (ABS) and ride in all weathers (heated grips), with a mouth to match, without the risk of breaking your own, but you're not allowed to anymore! Rating : 5/5
