presentation of the R 850 R 2006
with its 850 cm3 twin flat, the Munich-based company is developing clone models of its range above. Visually, the 850 is a carbon copy of the 1150: classy, elegant and respectful, this roadster has nothing to envy its big brother. Even when you're riding it, you can't tell much difference. The engine delivers 15 hp less than the 1150, but almost the same performance. A shorter final drive explains this sleight of hand. Roadholding and handling are excellent, the riding position is identical and the finish is top-notch... so why choose an 1150? Quite simply because the big one has more engine temperament (performance isn't everything) for barely €700 more. The difference isn't big enough to really set the 850 apart. This roadster remains an expensive product, frankly less comfortable than the German manufacturer's GTs, but it's a BM. It can be limited to 34 hp, but how many young people will dare to buy such a first model?

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 7 reviews
The engine is easy to live with, not noisy even on freeways with the original exhaust pipe, and consumes very little under the 110kmh mark (5l/100km)
However, at 130/140 you reach your reserve in just 200 km, which may surprise some
Comfort-wise, it's relatively comfortable as a duo, although the original saddle slips a little under braking and the rider finds himself a little cramped
There's nothing wrong with the shocks, which can be adjusted at the owner's discretion. However, this bike is a little high, which may pose a problem for smaller riders
There's also a socket in the footrests for a charger or USB cable, which is a nice touch as it avoids fiddling about Rating : 4/5 Respond to Jean76000

In terms of maintenance, few motorcycles offer such easy disassembly. Top time tank disassembly and valve clearance adjustment 1H10
Changing the fuel filter (in the tank) 1H00 (removal and fitting)
And now to your last point: costly maintenance..
False. As proof, I did it all myself, dismantling filters, valve clearance, adjusting idle and syncho, nothing but happiness and it saved me €300, I only paid for the consumables. Don't be lulled into complacency by the "Erase fault codes", "Adjust motronic" and "Update on part" functions. In my experience, you only touch the motronic if the bike is on the blink. For the rest, BMw is obliged to notify its customers of a product recall, so follow-up is guaranteed and at the dealer's expense. The same approach is used by car dealers
So, if you'd like to take it, look for it afterwards, it's the best way to let yourself go and swallow the KMs. Happy driving. Rating : 5/5 Respond to REGARD
Add to this a pull handle that's far too long, and a glaring lack of watts, and you'll be bored after a short period ... and longing for a sporty bike
Previous models: R1, 748S, RSV1000, SV1000S
The top bi was the RSV for its character and the SV for its ease of use
NB: for those on a smaller budget, the SV650 was also a top choice. Nothing better for the price!
Have a nice ride. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Didier
