presentation of the 800 MONSTER S2R 2006
the S2R is a pleasant surprise. It picks up on the S4R 's highly successful styling and a number of its features to appeal to bikers charmed by the ultimate Monster, but put off by its cosmic price tag. It's true that this twin 996-powered bitch costs almost as much as a GSX-R 1000. But there's a story behind the birth of this machine...
In fact, it replaces the 800 Monster. This roadster was the unloved member of the family. The aura of its sisters(620 and 1000) overshadowed it, and the public shunned it. Yet, more powerful than the 620, almost as efficient as the 900 and less expensive than the 1000, inheriting the same hellish looks, it represented the best compromise. Nobody saw it, but the 800 was in fact a chrysalis waiting to wake up. In 2005, the butterfly was born.
Welcome to the S2R. It takes its frame, engine and fork from the mid-monster. But its dazzling fenders are its big sister 's charm: the single-arm, the rim attached to it, the 2 raised side exhausts, the small colored stripe running lengthwise across the bike, the windscreen... These are the attributes of its predecessor. The reward: she's gorgeous. Let's not forget the Magura handlebars and footrests of the S4R, plus the APTC system found on the 620. Thanks to it, the clutch is much friendlier.
What does the S2R need to succeed? It lacks nothing. It has the name, the charm, the spirit and the character. So, big success in sight?
mhhhggnnniiieuuu... That was the effort to hook up with the old Ducat'. The Italians needed a firm grip. But with the new version of the APTC system, which softens the clutch control, you no longer need to have 50 kg of pressure in your left hand. So much the better, as you'll need to juggle the gearbox on city trips. The final drive pulls too long, and you often find yourself "between 2 waters" when it comes to gear ratios. Nonetheless, selection is easy, and you're ready for it to make passers-by gape. The melody of the twin desmo, very similar to that of the S4R, is already turning the heads of future admirers. But don't be fooled into thinking that the Monster has become a gentle beast that's easy to tame. You have to accept its impracticality, and would you believe it, customers love it. Bitchy or rebellious, it's your choice. With a seat that's two fingers high, a turning radius that's still unattractive and a definite lean on the forearms, the S2R starts by showing its teeth before surrendering itself to the rider.
destination the road, the real one, the one that turns. The first few minutes of winding on the torque, which is very respectable at the usual revs, allow both machine and rider to appreciate each other. Confidence grows. Then, quite naturally, you want to know what it's like to pick up the pace. The twin accepts being revved up to 9,000 rpm, but doesn't really enjoy it. There's no need to work it like a supersport engine, it prefers and offers you pleasure in the mid-range. You don't have to worry about it being sluggish. You can go hard into corners and hold the brakes, then throw the bike on the corner. In fact, the S2R can take even more than the 800.
The new Monster S2R doesn't disappoint, with its more enticing plastics, exciting engine, quality brakes and clutch, and fresh Italian style of living. It takes care of its looks and leaves the big watts to others. It's up to you to decide what appeals to you most.

It's in the purest Ducati tradition of the 2000s: trellis, air cooling, no electronic aids, "choke", desmodromic, very small turning radius... In short, everything that's no longer being done today, categorizing this toy as a Youngtimer from the purists' most fun motorcycle era. You want life on board? You'll get it!
I'm currently on the 34.5CH version, and it still revs up very high, very quickly, the throttle only making itself felt when you start approaching illegal speeds. All in all, it's perfect for everyday use. I was a little afraid, being a fresh A2, that I'd made a pure passionbike purchase without taking into account the absence of some of the most important elements for learning in peace (ABS and fuel gauge notably absent, no liquid cooling and a rear brake that may lack impact). But I was wrong. It's still easy to handle, and if you don't jerk it too much, it won't betray anyone. Ideal for winter, given how hot it is, less so in summer of course, although it's still quite bearable by the sea.
The bubble does the job well, even on the fastest roads, the mirrors are easy to read, and there's no need for an adaptable accessory pot, as the original sound system is very good and matches the character of the beast.
The only risk? Some would say reliability, maintenance... They're among the Italian brand's most reliable models, so in that respect, risks are limited. It's also very affordable on the market, including insurance. I've seen tests saying that the range was nil and that it was guzzling 8L/100, which is a load of rubbish, because you'll happily pass the 200km mark before the reserve calls out. No, if I had to point out a particular fault, I'd say that once you've tried this model, the models you'll try afterwards will quickly seem bland in comparison!
A TRUE MOTORCYCLE WITH CHARACTER!!! Rating : 5/5 Respond to AVM22
Is there a top case for this bike?
can you answer please

It's an expensive bike to buy and maintain, but the high price is justified by the profusion of quality equipment on the bike. By comparison, a service on a Ferrari will always be more expensive than on a Renault!
Proud to be a Ducatista, and I hope to be for a long time to come!!!! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Nickfury
Taking advantage of my train journeys to check out the new models, I noticed that Ducati had erased the only aesthetic "flaw" I reproached the monsters for (I refuse to call them monsters): the exhaust pipes on either side of the rear wheel (I know, I know, I know, it's what purists like), while adding a single-sided arm, superb rims, incredible handlebars and so on... so much so that I knew the name of my future bike
However, I was worried that the handling wouldn't be up to par with my previous bike: "the one" (which could have been my last if I hadn't run into the police...). the handling is impeccable, instinctive to a fault and the bike is as light as a feather, rounding every bend with disconcerting (but very pleasant) ease.
As for braking, I'm far from finding it soft, but with everything I've read, I have the impression of being the only one to find that the last centimetre of the brake handle serves a little too hard (it's wizz in the closing bends)
In the end, it's all good fun..
Bonne route à tous

Soon she's mine (only 7 days left...damn credit!!)
Frankly I'm in love, I took the red and white version, I love it!!!!!
After trying it out as a duo and solo, I've fallen for it
First of all, it was the duo that surprised me the most, especially compared to my future ex, a CBF600. A hell of a lot of torque, and exiting curves with such acceleration is terrible!
It's not as long as you'd expect, and at first I was quick to hit the break (as I'm used to 4-cylinder bikes), but it kicks in at around 9200rpm, and frankly, it pushes hard enough to satelize its little piece of pink cardboard without a care in the world
In terms of acceleration, the CBF600 is way behind (despite having the same power)
Super-rigorous chassis, like a real bike, top-notch braking except at the rear (is there a rear brake on that?), but given the engine brake... not too many blames
Nice sound, front position, a bit tiring but I think you soon get used to it
As a duo, given my size (1m73) and that of my girlfriend (1m60), we're much more comfortable than on the CBF
On the other hand, I'm going to have to go to the shops for servicing, which is very expensive! 2 to 3 times more expensive than HONDA. But when you love it, you don't count...I'll drop by for a little mess after a few thousand kilometers for my new impressions!
Hi and all the way to the right! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Seb06
We'll just have to see how much it costs to maintain, as it's only 2000 km at the moment, but it's a joy to ride, with no scares. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Nico
I'm not disappointed! The machine is small, maneuverable, lively, a real toy, and the 77 HP are sufficient for those who exploit them to the full. With it well in hand, the big cavalries stay behind on winding roads. Have a good vacation. Rating : 5/5 Respond to gilou44
A plastic tank is cheap... and I can't hang my old magnetic bags on it... a Sunday evening surprise...

more-than-sufficient braking, albeit with an average feel..
comfortable bike, even as a duo!
the only downside... the suspensions are relatively effective on the attack...on the track

Think of me, during my nordic rides in Quebec... Ya baby!!!
I still have my Monstro 620... I love the way it handles...
