presentation of the 1200 R Nine-T Urban G/S Dakar Series #1 2019
While younger generations have only known KTM's hold on the Dakar, others have seen the adventurous years when Yamaha, Honda, Cagiva and BMW distinguished themselves in the dunes and frontiers of Paris-Dakar.
BMW France has created a limited edition NineT Urban G / S to pay tribute to the rally and one of its key characters. 40 examples of this machine to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Dakar; an unmistakable 83 on the number plates to identify the year Hubert Auriol won the event (for the second time) aboard a BMW model.
this 1200 NineT Urban G/S Dakar Series #1 is clearly different from the basic model. A host of accessories make it almost a TT touring machine, but not yet a raid machine. We appreciate the stylish look of the set of spoked wheels, gold at the front and deep black at the rear. These off-road wheels, topped with Continental TKC studded tires, allow for real off-road moments while conveying the dream of escape. The nostalgic feel is reinforced by the deco draped from the tank to the saddle, based on the theme of the 1983 R 100 GS with which Hubert Auriol conquered victory on Senegalese soil. Except that the sponsors have given way to the name of the machine.
the tank confirms the exclusive nature of each model, reserved for the French market. An engraved and numbered plate, produced by B.R.M Chronographes, bears the signature of the driver of yesteryear. Nicknamed "l'Africain", Hubert Auriol won the event in 1981 on a R 80 G / S, in 1983 on a R 100 GS, then changed category and signed a new success in 19921 with a Mitsubishi Pajero, becoming the first driver to win the Dakar in both motorcycle and car. He also managed the event from 1995 to 2004.
In 1987, together with Patrick Fourticq, Henri Pescarolo and Arthur Powell, he set a world record for circumnavigating the globe in propeller planes, covering 23,852 kilometers in 88 hours and 49 minutes.

Apart from the spoked wheels, the chassis of this Dakar Series is identical to the standard model, itself closely derived from the NineT Scrambler.
Unveiled at Wheels & Waves 2019, the bike will only be manufactured on request from BM dealers.
