presentation of the 1200 R NineT /5 2020
BMW's comprehensive Heritage range has, however, left a little room for a version with a twist. This time, the focus is not on representing a particular genre, idea or fashion. This NineT /5 takes its theme from the 5 Series motorcycles of the 70s. A milestone in the brand's production at the time, the 50th anniversary of which is celebrated with this model.
1969 - the CB 750 revolution has arrived. The European motorcycle industry was in for the slap of the century. For its part, BM reacted with the 5 series and its R 50/5, R 60/5 and R 75/5. The confrontation wasn't really on the same terrain, with the Germans playing up their tireless road-going side.
Half a century on, the NineT/5 doesn't shy away from competition or challenges. It's not just a tribute, it's meant to please. And that goal has every chance of succeeding.
With its creamy Lupinblau Metallic blue color, this /5 immediately catches the eye and captivates it. It continues its seduction with a number of stylish touches, so that enthusiasts can dissect it at their leisure. These include : chrome-plated headers leading to the exhaust line of the NineT Racer sibling, a silver patina on the fork sleeves, wheels and final section of the Paralever transmission, brushed aluminum for the battery and airbox covers, chrome-plated mirrors, scrambler-style fork gaiters, a specially trimmed saddle, generous knee protectors, anodized forged aluminum fork crowns and footpegs, and above all, beautiful spoked wheels - almost indispensable for a bike that cultivates a sense of timeless charm. As for the very uncluttered view from the cockpit, it leaves you free to appreciate the big "50 Jahre /5" badge on the tank.

The 1170 cm3 engine may not be as spirited as the latest Boxer Shiftcam, but it still delivers 110 hp and 11.8 mkg. These are the kind of values that will keep you on the move, and at a good pace. The /5 uses the same block as the other NineTs, defending the simplicity of air cooling. A 6-speed gearbox, universal joint and monobar complete the kinematics. The brakes are the same: ABS, two 320 mm front discs with 4-piston calipers and one 265 mm disc with twin-piston caliper.
What inspiration for NineT these days! Following on from the Scrambler Vaillante and the Urban G/S Dakar Series, the NineT now dives back into the 70's with this revival of the 5 series, a period when the brand concentrated production of its cars in Munich and decided to manufacture its millstones in Spandau, a district to the west of Berlin. 50 years have passed and the NineT /5 pays tribute to this strategic production, which greatly multiplied the number of examples rolling off the production line. An unquestionably successful variation on the Pure, at an appropriate price and in a limited series.
