presentation of the F 850 GS 2021

While the F 850 GS sees as many melodies as epics in front of its spoked rims, it also sees the competition bite off bits of its path. The KTM 790 Adventure is peddling its taste for rallying, while the 900 Tiger has built up a strong strike force with its various versions.
The BMW isn't planning to stop there, and it's drawing in souvenirs to attract a certain crowd (with the 40th anniversary edition) and gaining equipment.

Want to put the driver in your pocket right away? Flatter the eye as soon as he's in the saddle. The F 850 GS adopts a 5-inch color TFT display, complete with graphics, high-tech interface and connectivity functions. A bonus USB socket, a windscreen adjustment system, LED indicators, and improved steering aids continue the evolution of performance. Then it's on to the electronic systems.

Yesterday with ABS and ASC traction control, the F 850 GS 'évo' replaces them with ABS Pro reactive in corners and more efficient DTC traction control. Then comes the options section, where BMW has added dynamic engine braking and DBC brake control to the Pro riding modes. The 'Dynamic' mode has been reworked, while a mode preselection system can be assigned to a control on the right handlebar.
Seat too high? Don't worry, there's a new, extra-low one in the catalog, which can be accompanied by a modified lowered suspension.

BMW F 850 GS 2021 - 1BMW F 850 GS 2021 - 1

BMW F 850 GS 2021 the engine has undergone few changes, only to be ready to digest the Euro5 standard. It ensures prime efficiency without encroaching on the big sister's turf. The latter is a formidable defender of its stronghold.

Since trail riding is virtually a BMW philosophy, it's essential for the Bavarian manufacturer to maintain the range at a high level. Of course, everyone immediately thinks of the R 1250 GS. But in the shadow of this road and trail icon, this F 850 is intent on claiming its share of the ground. And since a certain Honda Africa Twin has seriously established itself in the sector, it was time for theex-800 to raise its game.

And that starts with a completely overhauled engine, ready for a multitude of occasions. BMW has taken a serious look at its parallel twin to make it offer more. With more space in the cylinders, it will be able to set the tone. Displacement has been increased by 55 to 853 cm3. It's equally at home in the F 750 GS and the 850, but obviously, performance isn't at all the same. Here, power reaches 95 hp at 8250 rpm and 9.4 mkg of torque at 6250 rpm. That's 10 hp and almost 1 mkg more than on the previous F 800 GS. Like the 750, this machine is A2 adjustable.
All these modifications result in a reversal of position for certain peripherals. For example, the secondary drive chain moves to the left and the exhaust migrates to the right. BM had done the same when its 1200 GS adopted the liquid-cooled boxer. According to Dixit, a muffler on the right-hand side of the grinding wheel prevents burns when the machine is manoeuvred (lifted) from the left-hand side, the side most often used.

The F 850 GS is loaded with electronics, both standard and optional. Let's start with the standard equipment, which includes two Riding Modes (Rain and Road), DTC, ABS Pro, Dynamic brake light (standard since 2019), and a revamped dashboard.
The appetizers can quickly tempt you. The F 850 GS can be fitted with ESA electronically adjustable suspension, a shifter, Pro Riding Modes - which adds Enduro, Enduro Pro and Dynamic - LED signature headlight, emergency call and Keyless Ride keyless start system.

The design of the 850 GS, which it shares in its entirety with its smaller sibling, is more assertive. The underside, too, is more assertive. The GS abandons its tubular trellis for a more rigid steel structure. The fuel tank is relocated to a classic position between the rider and the cockpit; it was located under the seat on the F 800 GS. The chassis geometry of the new GS is more conservative than that of its predecessor. Suspension features a 43 mm inverted fork and monoshock with long suspension travel. With 204 mm at the front and 219 mm at the rear, this bike clearly announces its off-road ambitions. The spoked rims are in the same vein, especially the 21-inch front wheel fitted with a narrow 90/90 front tire.
The seat height has been lowered by 20 mm, for a peak of 860 mm. In terms of weight, however, the F 850 GS has eaten a large chunk of cheese, gaining 12 kilos on the scales.

Keen to take control of the mid-size trail segment with off-road capabilities, the BMW F 850 GS improves on many fronts. It relies as much on technology as on its full measure of off-road ability to keep the competition at bay. Not an easy task, as the level of competition has risen considerably in recent years. But there's the blue-and-white crest on the fairing.

French Tartanpion91 Model 2022
BMW shows once again that the F series, despite their unlicensed boxer engine, are good bikes, but with, in my opinion, one major flaw, a ridiculous range for a model that's meant to be an adventurer, the constant impression of being hooked to the pump... who at BMW had the idea of sticking such a small tank on this model. It's incomprehensible, and that's what makes me leave it for the competition. Rating : 3/5
Très bonne moto
Recently purchased, this bike is really good. Great chassis. Torquey engine. The model I have is full option. The only downside is the keyless fuel filler flap, which I have trouble closing. There's no point... Rating : 5/5
850GS vs 750 Transalp
Hello, having looked closely and tried the Transalp, the bikes are completely different.
The Bm's finish is beyond reproach, while the Honda's is very cheap, and even adding all the options is a long way from the mark.
The Honda's strong point is its power in relation to its displacement, but the GS's torque is much better. The Bm's only drawback, as I said earlier, is its weight and its av fork, which can't be adjusted for compression or rebound

Presque parfaite
French Michel_P Model 2023
I've had it since September 2022, 8000kms, trophy version, it could be the perfect bike with, 1 adjustable front fork 10 to 20 kg less, Of course you also have to put all the options as well as a bubble worthy of the name. Rating : 4/5
French lamouche Model 2022
This is my 9th BMW and it's a treat! As I was getting older, I was looking for a bike that was more versatile than the 1200 RT I'd been riding, and especially lighter. I took all the options, which cost an arm and a leg, but which allowed me to have an extra-low seat. Its pro chifter is perfectly suited to my flowing ride. I've rediscovered some of the sensations I had on my 1150gs, with its suppleness and pleasant handling. Its BMW-licensed Chinese engine revs up nicely, but you always have to be in the right gear, especially at low speeds, otherwise it coughs! Its exhaust gives a pleasant sound, akrapovik style...so far, nothing but happiness... It's a pity though that you have to go through a lot of options to get full satisfaction and that their price is so expensive! Rating : 4/5
French Narcosian Model 2019
You can tell from reading the various articles that the bike is actually a dud. A weight of 229 kgs, heavier than a Honda 1100 and a Chinese engine!!! It's a bit light in the segment. Not as good as the 800GS!!! Rating : 5/5
French lasquipique
Hi, no the CB1100 is even heavier at 260 kilos, I have one. A+ Rating : 5/5

French Tomislav Model 2018
It's my first BMW!
Even if the engine is Chinese, it's good,
It's full, the gearbox locks up well
It's a bit heavy for the pampas, I realized after a few falls!
But I don't have the level
Otherwise, on the road, it's a rail, the saddle's a bit hard, but that's okay
I've had it for 2 years and I'm keeping it, it's a really good bike and it's not my first!

Arnaque à la sauce BMW
French Thierry Model 2018
Nearly 12,000 â'¬ for a more-than-proven chassis and a Chinese engine, it's a real rip-off! LONCIN engine in China, what a rip-off! Rating : 3/5
French Eric
Because you think the Chinese manufacture badly!? We need to evolve a little...it's not 1990 anymore! Chinese industry is better than ours, and the proof is in the pudding Rating : 3/5
French boitout
It's not that they manufacture badly, it's that they manufacture cheaply... whereas the grinding wheel isn't exactly cheap.

And that's what Thierry meant, I think.

Mr. Bmw installs an engine for a handful of bucks, but he still sells the wheel for the price of gold...
