presentation of the 1125 CR 2009
a Buell street-fighter with a lot of horsepower is bound to be a disturbing machine, one that slams you in the face. And when you've got 146 horsepower for the weight of a sports bike, all you want to do is tear up the asphalt.
the XB series had already given a good overview of the talents and ingenuity of the small American manufacturer. The strong chassis identity, the hyper-compact size of its machines, the unmistakable look of the XB-S roadsters... it all adds up, but it's not enough for Erik Buell. After installing supercharged Harley engines with 40% more power, Buell made things simpler: he simply transformed his hypersport into a street-fighter. A roadster with a big gniak and everything it takes to disturb the neighborhood. Mixing the 1125 R with Erik's vision of a modern café-racer now produces the 1125 CR.
at first glance, the work of the design and technical workshops would have been satisfied with just changing the fork head. But that's all it takes to transform the Buell. This mini-face (with its Suzuki B-King look) makes the shoulders stand out enormously, while giving it an even more aggressive appearance. Buell has reconsidered the slapping machine: one set for competitors, another for those who dare to turn the throttle vigorously.
With its
to hold the 47 mm inverted fork, the bracelets have been replaced by higher handlebars, and between your reckless arms, the chassis isn't afraid of much... So, you can open if you're brave and experienced. With its short wheelbase, contained weight of 170 kg (the same as on the 1125 R) and low column angle, the Buell will react in the blink of an eye, with that character Erik likes to imbue in his machines. The perimeter frame containing the fuel, the swingarm, the huge 375 mm disc bitten by an 8-piston caliper - these are the same elements as on the sports bike. So we can be confident of the beast's performance.
a little technology and optimization - Back to the HELICON engine - 146 hp
a new, very modern, compact, closed-twin engine with a 72° angle, fuel injection and super-square dimensions.dimensions of 103 x 67.5 mm, liquid cooling, 4 valves per cylinder, 3 balance shafts, double ACT, dry sump lubrication, double 61mm inverted throttle bodies... Perfect equipment for the latest-generation hypersport berlingot. An Austrian engine, developed to very precise specifications by Erik's staff. A twin from ROTAX, the famous engine manufacturer that builds, among others, the Aprilia RSV 1000 twin. A guarantee of reliability and power. And for those of you still reeling from the shock, here's something to make you feel better: the engine spits out 146 horsepower and over
Around this big twin, a number of elements further optimize the mechanics. The pressurized 12-liter airbox provides 5% extra performance. The radiators are positioned laterally, behind the fairing sides... or rather, in the huge vacuum cleaner scoops. Their position is calculated to optimize mass centering and the center of gravity. In fact, the layout of every component on the 1125 R / CR has been designed with this in mind. This is particularly true of the exhaust system, which, as always, is positioned under the saddle; Buell claims that"the silencer is tuned to provide a linear power and torque curve, eliminating the cost, weight and complexity of an active exhaust system. A Helmholtz chamber in the muffler further reduces noise. ". In short, no EXUP, somewhat smoother behavior for greater efficiency, and gases half-smothered by anti-noise standards. So, if you put on a good adaptable pot, you should get a real kick out of it, just like your neighbor's truncheon when you start up. The police will eventually calm you down, except on racetracks (and even then, not all of them).
with this 1125 CR, did Buell set out to design its street-fighter, or ITS vision of a street-fighter? Surely something powerful, a little crazy and intimidating, definitely for big shots and those who want to ride something different. A sort of mix of American rodeo and European-style heavy stuff. In fact, Buell advertises its latest model"With its ruthless attitude and perfect silhouette, the 1125CR is a road bike designed for the descendants of the Café Racer generation", almost like a Joe Bar Team cover.
