presentation of the K7 125 1990
The Cagiva 125cc trail range of the early '90s was made up of 3 models sharing the same engine and frame. The big-bore trail bike went by the sweet name of N90, the Supercity played the role of supermotard and the endurance sports bike was called K7.
The K7's design was surprising and innovative, to say the least. Apple-green frame, white plastics, black tank and pink saddle were enough to put off a good number of bikers.
Technically, the K7 shared with the rest of the range the Freccia's 125cc 7-speed engine (used on the Mito and the brand's other 125 trails). The engine developed just over thirty horsepower, and the 7 gears promised good acceleration.
The chassis was well made. The square-section tubular steel frame had a decoupled single cradle. Suspension travel was long (conventional 260mm front fork, 270mm rear monoshock).
The K7 was very comfortable on the trails. The engine, with its shortened secondary drivetrain compared to the N90 and Supercity, had very good acceleration and allowed for many off-road excesses.
Nonetheless, these enduristic qualities penalized it on the road. The short gear ratio meant frequent gear changes, and the seat height was a nuisance in town.
Its color scheme and high price, compared with Japanese trails (8 to 10,000 FF less expensive), forced it into a secondary role on the French market.
