presentation of the Multistrada V4 S 1160 Grand Tour 2024
20 years since the Multistrada came out. What started out as a somewhat sporty trail bike - but already with a desire for versatility - has evolved into a road-going maxi-trailer. Powerful (very), comfortable, expensive, charismatic, the MTS V4 S reaches the height of its power with this new "Grand Tour" series.
Multistradisti" will remember this noun. It was used on the 1260 Multistrada in 2020 to offer the same kind of performance. But how does the "Grand Tour" differ from the rest of the range?
As its name suggests, it's a bike that's both travel-oriented and travel-worthy. Ducati has gone to great lengths to equip this bike for travel. At first glance, it may just look like an extra set of suitcases, but on closer inspection, the model reveals much more.
For the Bologna-based company, this is an opportunity to disseminate the improvements introduced on the MTS V4 Rally. The handlebars are stiffened for a better "feel" of the ride; there's a new passenger seat; new heat shields are fitted to the swingarm and rear buckle; a set of hatches is used to close the lower side air ducts; and finally, the glove compartment... sorry, smartphone compartment, is now ventilated.
Now let's find out what the Multistada V4 S Grand Tour has nicked from the cupboard. Straight away, it grabs the Travel + Radar pack. That means two suitcases for 60 liters of luggage. Comfort is designed for winter and dog days, with heated grips and saddles. A center stand has been added, and the machine constantly monitors what's going on around it thanks to its radars. One in front, one behind, and the Ducat' can detect what's going on in the blind spots. This is indicated by a light on the top of the rearview mirror. Its front sensor provides adaptive cruise control and maintains a constant distance from the vehicle in front.
As standard, the V4 S is equipped with a keyless ignition system. Here, the fuel filler cap adopts the same technology.
And then, night often invites itself onto the trip when you ride a lot and/or often. The Multistrada V4S is equipped with backlit gauges and adaptive cornering lights; the Grand Tour adds additional headlights.
This over-equipped edition has just shown its calling card, which it can make fly to the rhythm of its big V4. A highly sensational engine. Its distant relationship with the Panigale block gives it a sporty pedigree, but its touring adaptations make it a powerful, invigorating and civilized road companion. With 170 horsepower at hand, the road can quickly become a catapult terrain. Except that the engine doesn't have the fiery temperament of the Superbikes in the range, but the strength of a big, dry muscle. With it, the Multistrada can be ridden effortlessly and serenely, even when fully loaded, just as it can calm a number of sporty roadsters.
You'd be forgiven for suspecting it, but let's not forget that this is the most powerful trail bike on the market (if we exclude the future M 1000 XR, a sick SUV in another category).

This Grand Tour isn't really a specific model, like the Pikes Peak or the Rally , but rather a demonstration of what can be done with the Multistrada, with just a few options. Everything extra is available in the catalog, except paintwork. The "Grand Tour Livrery" deco is only available with the Multistrada.
The other bonus is pricing. By choosing this model, you benefit from a price advantage of a few hundred euros compared with a V4-S, to which all the extra equipment is added. But the bill is so high that the difference is insignificant - let's underline the gesture.
With this Multistrada, Ducati goes all the way to the end of the road. More than a motorcycle, it's a showcase for Ducati's expertise in this field. As for the question of reasonableness... no one would dream of broaching it.
