presentation of the 620 MONSTER 2003

Since a young Argentinian engineer drew the first sketches of the Monster, Ducati has produced 100,000 units. A real popular success, especially for the 600. But while the 900 cm 3 had benefited from a number of changes since its launch, the little thumb of the range had hardly evolved at all. This is now the case, with an increase in displacement (from 583 to 618 cm3 thanks to an increase in stroke), the adoption of a chassis largely derived from the ST range and, above all, a new electronic fuel injection system. The engine is still air-cooled, and the valve train remains desmodromic, with a single overhead camshaft and two valves per cylinder. However, their diameter has been increased, as has the volume of the airbox. Power output has been increased from 52 to 60 hp at around 1,000 rpm. The chassis also features a new Sachs rear shock absorber, a longer wheelbase and a 320 mm double disc. On the road, while the handling of the new 620 ie is less than that of its predecessor, stability is almost flawless, despite the firmness of the suspension. With none of the untimely and surprising reactions typical of a short wheelbase, the bike is more accessible and easier to ride, even for less experienced riders. As for the engine, it delivers more progressive power, and torque is much more available at low and medium revs. In this respect, the Monster 620 ie approaches Japanese standards of smoothness without losing its soul.

On the other hand, the vibrations and noises of the air-cooled mechanics are still present, and the riding position is still as "grippy" as ever. The price is still high, especially when compared with a less expensive and more efficient 650 SV, but the desmo charm is inimitable. The new Monster 620 ie brings a real plus in terms of amenities. More stable, smoother and with good braking, it will suit those looking for a motorcycle with character for everyday use or short weekend rides.

Mama Mia ...for a 620, pure joy every time out... playful in the bends... unflappable in the curves... excellent chassis... in short, a ducat Rating : 4/5
French Cacawait Model 2004
I've had 4 Monsters (600 carbu/900ie/800 s2r) I own a 620 Capirex edition which today has 90,000 km, well maintained and used regularly. The most reliable and maneuverable (160 rear tire) of the old-design Monsters
Excellent torque, efficient braking. Every ride is a treat.
Please note that my version has a 6-speed gearbox with double 320 discs, and the chain kit has an original 46/15 reduction ratio (SIE), which corresponds to 38/14 on the basic versions
In short, it's a treat - no need for anything bigger, the 63hp are well distributed, and it's got enough pep to blow the license..
At this mileage, I'll never part with it, and I'm about to buy a 2nd one for my wife so we don't have to share it anymore.

This bike is a dream! It's my first bike and I think I'll be a twin fan for the rest of my life! Even after trying more powerful 4-cylinders, I'll never find the virile character of the desmo! The mithe ducat' is not a legend, it's pure pleasure to be experienced at least once in your life... Rating : 5/5
