presentation of the DESMOSEDICI 1000 RR 2006

here it is - Officially presented on June 1, 2006 at the Mugello Grand Prix. The first MotoGP machine ready to race on the open road: the DUCATI DESMOCEDICI RR.

a dream? Simple and untouchable. Who hasn't thought of owning Doohan's NSR 500, Agostini's MV or Rossi's RCV 211? Of course, there have always been Replica models, to satisfy fans obsessed with legends. But never has an authentic grand prix machine taken to the streets. Soon, that will no longer be true.
During World Ducati Week, the annual Ducati gathering, the boss of the Bologna-based firm announced a major event: in 2006, the Desmosedici RR will be a reality.
Now it's a reality: the Desmosedici RR is nothing less than the road version of the MotoGP machine. A minimum of road equipment has been added to obtain homologation. The small headlights give it an intense expression, a lively, menacing look that would suit a creature from the X-files - after that, it's sheer bliss. The V4 may not be exactly the same as the competition engine, but its pedigree is very high indeed. Faithful to the desmodromic valve train - driven by a cascade of pinions - the completely new boiler uses noble materials such as aluminum and magnesium for the crankcases, and titanium for the connecting rods and valves. The extractable gearbox will have to digest a power output in excess of 200 hp - and the exhaust emits over 100 decibels, enough to stand out from all points of view.
As on the championship Desmosedici, the RR is based on a tubular trellis frame (a house tradition) whose geometry is identical to that of the GP6. The swingarm is anchored directly to the engine crankcases. The rear suspension is similar to that of the MotoGP machine, while the front is fitted with a special 43 mm diameter Öhlins "FG353" PFF fork. Braking is of course radial, with monobloc calipers for increased rigidity. Carbon is omnipresent, for the bodywork and the vast majority of parts. The rims are Marchesini magnesium wheels shod with very special Bridgestone tires, with a profile specially developed for the Desmocedici - Ducati doesn't go for half-measures.

DUCATI 1000 DESMOSEDICI RR It's true that the Italian manufacturer isn't offering an aesthetic copy of Honda's marketing concept, like the CBR 600 RR, which mimics the RCV 211. No, the Desmosedici RR is the perfect illustration of the Race Replica concept. A simply exceptional machine that no one would have believed could ever be built. If you're already itching to get your hands on one, save your money now: the dream is priced at €55,000 (glurps...), with an estimated production run of 400 machines a year. If you're the proud owner of a 999 R, you'll have priority for this fantasy.

once you've placed your order, Ducati won't just let you go. There are a few extras in store for owners: a 3-year warranty and 3 years of scheduled maintenance, a racing kit including a racing exhaust (102 db), a specific electronic box, a protective cover, a racing workshop stand and a set of stickers.
The Desmocedici RR will be available in 2 versions:
1 / painted in Ducati Racing red, with a white number plate on the rear hull.
2 / painted factory machine version, in red with a wide white stripe on the fairing panels. So you can decorate it just like Capirossi's machine.

The cavalry is one thing, but for me, weight is at least as important
The GP weight limit is around 145kg, but what about the strada version?
Considering the materials used, we can dream of much less than 180kg, can't we?
Its only competitor, the MV VELTRO, claims 170kg and is relatively close (CrMo frame, brakes, 4 legs, etc.)

I think you'll have to expect 200hp at full power, but as far as looks go, it's really the worthy descendant of the late 916/996. When it comes to ducat design, there's no photo op. Rating : 5/5

What power, what beauty... I don't know what to say
only a mv agusta f4 1000 veltro could compete with it...

M.A.G.N.I.F.I.Q.U.E what more can I say, I'm running out of superlatives? I wonder about the application of the 100hp power limit in France... You'll have to buy it in Italy, and you'll have to make do with the homologation and insurance. In any case, given the price, I think I'll keep my RSV 1000 for a while longer Rating : 5/5

the desmo 16 promises to be a monster. in fact, even with a "normal" ducati, the weight and power, although inferior to the japanese crap, are still important, but with 200 bhp for 180 kilos, i'm not going to take it out in the pouring rain, believe me! what's more, thanks to this, ducati is going to enter it in superbike and endurance (even if it would be tiring), and the other bikes can keep up with it!!!!!!!

long live ducati !!!!

it's really incredible, such power, remaining faithful to the desmodromic, I would say that this engine will be the N°1 in GP after its introduction ...... vive L'italienne . ma tite mostro aussi :p Rating : 5/5

In my opinion, the power of the Desmosedici RR will be in the region of 200hp. But it's not just power that counts, torque is more important in my opinion, and you also need a bike that can handle that kind of power....so the Desmosedici RR is made for it!!!! Rating : 5/5
French Model 2006
as the owner of a 95hp hornet, when I see what I can already do with it, it seems madness to have more than 200hp! Rating : 5/5
French Model 2006
the desmosedici makes 230hp in GP but how much power will it make when it goes on sale? Rating : 5/5
