presentation of the Monster 1000 S2R 2006
the Monster has been around for 15 years now, and we never tire of seeing it on the road or in magazines. Ducati can't get enough of it either, because of its success. And yet, after so many years, after so many versions, after so much passion, the Monster returns in a new guise and still manages to surprise us.
Not in terms of design, although its silhouette is as charming as ever. Adorning itself with the new Monster look - multi-tube single-arm and raised side exhausts - the 1000 completes the R family initiated by the S4R and recently taken over by the 800 S2R. Magura aluminum handlebars, carbon side covers, stripe decoration, windscreen, Michelin Pilot Power as standard: the little touches that complete this evolution make the S2R 1000 a far more interesting machine than the 1000 DS it replaces. Not only does its price make it the monster with the best quality/price/equipment ratio, but its engine has become a much nicer and friendlier road companion than before. Reading the spec sheet, however, it wasn't obvious. The twin desmo dual ignition has gained a little in power and torque, and a lot in enjoyment.
It's the new character of the Monster that surprises most. Previous versions of the air-cooled twin have never been renowned for their smoothness or suppleness. The latest cartography developed for the Bolognese bike consigns these references to oblivion. It is now much more supple, yet still very vigorous and usable over a very wide rev range.
Now's the time to play a little. The twin's generous torque (10 mkg at 5,000 rpm) can be distributed through the intermediate gears, allowing you to have fun right up to the red zone. Don't hesitate to attack with your body on the line: the mill pulls without running out of breath, while the chassis transforms power on the road into efficiency and performance. With the help of Pilot Power and raised exhausts, the Italian roadster can take on more angles than ever before, without fear of machining the edges of the mufflers.
If, like all Monster bikes, the S2R 1000 is best appreciated in the mid-range, when torque is at its peak, it also allows you to play the fool with a few stylistic tricks, to get up and down the hills... or to show off in the city center.
The look of the S4R, plenty of watts and a hefty ladle of torque for almost a few plates less than the big sister... The Monster 1000 S2R is devilishly tempting. The only real problem is that it's likely to overshadow the other Monsters in the range. It has a lot going for it, if not the best.

But the s2r 1000 is 95hp of pure pleasure and incredible torque.
I've made a number of modifications to mine: handlebar straps; moved the controls back; 14" sprocket; reprogrammed the ECU; EMC shock absorber; etc. But the sensations are there, absolute. But the sensations are there, absolute, true and unfiltered. Every outing is a joy, for the eyes, the ears and the mind.
It's easy to control, but you have to be involved. Rather grumpy at low revs and when the engine isn't strong enough. It becomes a goddess in the turns. Mind you, Madame doesn't like bad road surfaces, and city driving isn't her forte. However, on the right road and with the right drive, its behavior is exemplary.
There's plenty of power, and the famous "kick in the pants" is no legend.
I can't recommend this incredible bike enough, with its timeless design, magnificent lines, single-arm and dry clutch!
However, it needs to be pampered. Pay particular attention to maintenance. But with a little patience, elbow grease and a good garage, it's largely doable, even on a modest budget.
Exciting motorcycles, passionate motorcycles. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Otori
2008 model. Exhausts to match. Open airbox. Various equipment fitted to ensure and assume my "hairdresser's boy" side. Professional ECU tuning.
The hill is ultra-steep in the occaz\' for well-equipped models, including those with milestones. At the same time, it's understandable: this bike never gets old!
This D2 is a real hoot. Highly usable on the road. Maintenance is affordable if you know how to go about it (outside the Ducatistore network), and if you scrupulously follow the prescribed overhaul schedule. Less powerful than the mythical D4s of the time (S4R with its 996 or 998 block) in absolute terms, but the overflowing mid-range torque transforms it into a catapult, exploding out of every bend. And with a lyricism that would make a Pavarotti quiver, you'll find yourself smiling with every twist of the handle.
A relatively easy motorcycle to ride at first glance, you still need to know its limits and know how to ride it (average rear shock absorber to be replaced by good equipment if you want to take full advantage of the chassis).
Beware, it has its own character. The clutch is dry and makes a noise like shaking dishes, the clutch control martials the tendons in your hand, and so on. What an Italian! But that's why we love it. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Otori
Seen again and again in her dealership, I've left tons of drool on the fairing of her tank
I can't wait to get my license and make this goddess mine......whatever anyone says! Rating : 5/5 Respond to wasseb
