presentation of the HM 796 Hypermotard 2012
its displacement has been scaled down to appeal to a wider audience, without sacrificing the HM spirit. In fact, the 796 retains the uncompromising lines of the 1100, even retaining an inverted fork with radial brake calipers, an all-digital dashboard, and pots under the engine.the late 800 Monster S2R was also equipped with one.
But let's take a look at the new twin installed in the little Hypermotard. With a cubic capacity of 803 cm3 (but marketing has retained the name 796...), this oil-cooled desmodromic mill has the same bore (88 mm) as the 696 Monster, but a longer stroke (66 mm) than the latter. It delivers just a tad more power than the 696, i.e. 81 hp. But it's the torque that makes all the difference: 7.7 mkg spread over a much more usable range.
the 696 Hypermotard is just as attractive as its big brother, the 1100, yet much more accessible. It's a featherweight, weighing 167 kg dry, with a seat height of 825 mm - 20 mm less than the 1100 - and an APTC clutch. This system, first introduced on the 620 Monster, reduces lever effort, acts as a torque damper and prevents the rear wheel from locking up during aggressive downshifts.
The 796 HM will be available in a discreet mix of white and black. The red version, more traditional and striking, will require a small additional effort of 310 euros.
