presentation of the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition 2019

Although the Panigale V4 is now entering its second year in the catalog, and its variantsthe most voracious appetites (S, Speciale, R), the last twin-powered Panigale continues its career. It's very tempting(and expensive) for fans of the model. It's one of the most exceptional Panigale bikes Ducati has ever produced. And with a highly symbolic image: it represents the last in its lineage and in the history of the V2 hypersport for the Italian manufacturer. A huge page has been turned, and a machine packed with symbolism was needed to bring 30 years of thrills to a close. Since the birth of the 851, Ducati has placed its L-twin at the forefront of Superbike history. A passion, sometimes violent, always demanding, that culminates in the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition. A name shared with the last 998 S, which marked the culmination of the famous 916; a whole history, a whole legend.

An exceptional, exclusive motorcycle, born of respect and admiration for the engine that made Ducati history and wrote the record books in the World Superbike Championship. The new 1299 Panigale R is more than just a bike with a dedicated color or a simple numbered series. A tricolored dress pays homage to Ducati's emblematic twin-cylinder engine, which reaches its peak on this machine. This is a design that the brand knows how to use on emblematic models: the first 851, the 1098 S, the 1199 Panigale S, or the Monster S4Rs.

For its world preview, Ducati has chosen the 8th round of the SBK World Championship, taking place this weekend at Laguna Seca (California-US), where Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, presented the new 1299 Panigale R Final Edition in the company of Chaz Davies and Marco Melandri (the two official Ducati-Aruba.it Racing).

This latest Bologna-produced jewel offers unprecedented technology, performance and design. Approved for Euro 4 road use, each 1299 Panigale R Final Edition is individually numbered(but not limited in production). Derived from the 1299 Superleggera engine, the Final Edition Superquadro develops 209 hp at 11,000 rpm and 14.5 kgm of torque at 9,000 rpm. It features a lighter crankshaft with a larger crankpin and tungsten balancing weights, while the connecting rods, like the exhaust valves, are made of titanium. As on Superbike engines, the two 116 mm-diameter pistons have only two rings and slide in steel liners.

Developed by Ducati Corse, the ultra-compact monocoque structure integrates the airbox and plays a key role in reducing the dry weight of this Final Edition to just 179 kg.

The chassis configuration of this latest Ducati supersport is identical to that of the Panigale R, featuring Öhlins mechanical suspensions and a 24° rake.

The Akrapovic titanium exhaust system with twin silencers (Euro 4 approved) is just as sophisticated and lightweight as that fitted to the Panigale R entered in the World Superbike Championship.

On-board electronics include an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and are equipped with cornering ABS.e cornering ABS, Ducati Anti-Wheeling Control EVO (DWC EVO), Ducati Traction Control EVO (DTC EVO) and Engine Brake Control (EBC). These systems have default settings, defined according to riding modes (Race, Sport and Wet) but can be fully customized.

"I'm incredibly proud to be able to present this latest version of our Panigale," proclaimed Claudio Domenicali at the presentation."Without doubt, no other motorcycle brand has linked its name as closely with an engine as Ducati has with its sporty twin-cylinder. Today, we're here to celebrate its history, we're at the dawn of a new era where our desmodromic system will be used for a new generation of V4 engines, drawn from our vast experience in MotoGP, a championship in which our engine has demonstrated exceptional performance. But this is the future. Today we'd like to pay tribute to the twin-cylinder engine which - thanks to its phenomenal torque and compactness - has given Ducati numerous victories in every SBK championship in which it has participated. In short, it's the engine par excellence that has made World Superbike history. From Marco Lucchinelli's first victory on April 3, 1988 with the 851 at Donington Park (in the very first World Championship for modified models from aa series) to the victories of Chaz Davies and Marco Melandri on the Panigale R, Ducati has won no fewer than 333 races, claiming 17 Constructors' titles and 14 Drivers' titles.
