presentation of the DIAVEL 1260 S 2022
The Diavel attacked 2022 well before the others. The 'Black & Steel' color scheme is in the spotlight, with a grey and black topcoat taking hostage the mechanical yellow - which has made some pretty sunny bits on 748s, some Monsters and other temperamental Bolognese.
On the technical side, a little Euro5 touch-up goes hand in hand with a slap in the face to the classic sentences of drastic standards: the Diavel puts out more horsepower! 3 more for a total of 162 hp at 9,500 rpm. A small weight gain too, of 3 kilos.
For so long, Ducati has almost systematically offered an S version of its high-wattage models. Panigale V4 S, Multistrada S, Monster 1200 S, Hypermotard S... since the 996 S. And sometimes a few little incursions. This was the case with the Diavel, whose top-of-the-range version was called Carbon. This time, all is back in order with the Diavel 1260 S, adorned with more noble elements.
With its DVT variable valve timing engine and revised displacement, the 162-hp Diavel promises more power at mid-range and more watts at the top. Its new chassis promises greater agility, while the S is used to refine its suspension.
As usual, Öhlins is called upon for its suspensions. A 48-mm inverted fork replaces the 50-mm Marzocchi, both of which are fully adjustable. Although less generous in size, the Swedish fork offers superior road feel and efficiency. Ditto for the rear shock, adjustable in all directions. The Carbon didn't have any of these trump cards; its main distinguishing features were its lightened rims and carbon parts.
it gains on one side what it loses on the other. The attributes of the Carbon are not carried over. Although it no longer has the Marchesini forged-aluminum wheels, it does offer a little surface treatment to its wheels, in the name of premium. We would have preferred lighter wheels, however, to boost agility.
The Diavel S is serious about sportiness, with Brembo M50 brake calipers and an Up&Down shifter. A touch of extra class with an insert on the seat and a DRL light signature in the headlamp. Has interactivity with an on-board multimedia system. Once the smartphone is tuned to the Diavel, the user can manage calls, text messages and music from the bike.
In terms of electronics, the Diavel and Diavel S are equally well equipped, with cruise control, 3 riding modes, 4 dashboard display modes, 3 power modes, ABS cornering, backlit switches, traction control, anti-wheeling, keyless start, start-stop assistant, Bosch 6-axis inertial measurement unit (I.M.U.), 3.5-inch TFT color screen and automatic turn signals.
Priced at 3,000 euros more than the Diavel 1260, this S variant makes the road more active, more dynamic, and the bike more "precious". Despite its name, it's not the reincarnation of the devil, but the devil would certainly have chosen it to make a grand entrance.
