presentation of the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary 2023
The finest pages in Ducati history have been written by legendary models(916 - Monster -SS - and many others), men, engineers, designers, and riders of formidable mettle. Fogarty, Stoner, Roche, Polen, Laconi, Zarco... While the Panigale V2 takes a close look at one of the most famous: Troy Bayliss.
The Panigale V2 makes a real statement. It's that of a fan, a boiling-blooded lady who won't embark on a ride unless her idol is riding her. As if to show her early and uncompromising admiration, the "average" Panigale takes up the colors of the machine that once raced in WSBK, the one that gave Bayliss his first title in 2001. The 21, the Australian rider's fetish number, is prominently displayed, timidly accompanied by the Shell logo, the team's sponsor. The line and the look are beyond criticism.
In celebration of this coronation, achieved 21 years ago, this Ducati bears the identity of "1st Championship 20th Anniversary". Okay, we didn't go to too much trouble in Bologna to create the name. But we did make a serious effort on the equipment. When you bear the name of a three-time World Superbike Champion, you'd better look your best... and then some.
That's why the provocative Panigale V2 dresses up in gold legs to take its efficiency to the next level. The 43 mm NIX30 upside-down fork and TTX36 side-mounted shock absorber from Öhlins will provide even greater rigor, feel and sportiness, combined with riding pleasure. Another Swedish shock absorber moderates the front end.
The beauty is jealous. It has deliberately removed its footrests and passenger seat, and replaced its battery with a Li-Ion model, saving 3 kilos in weight. Fortunately, Ducati discreetly donates the hardware to the side so as not to provoke the Panigale's ire.
So reassured, she takes the opportunity to get ready with a few goodies. The race number and an expression of the Italian flag are embroidered on the two-material saddle, embellished with red stitching. The bike also features carbon and titanium tailpipes, self-cleaning brake and clutch master cylinders, smoked fluid jars, the bike's name and serial number on the superb fork crown, sport grips and, last but not least, a sticker bearing Troy Bayliss's signature on the fuel tank.

On top of all that, the electronics are up to scratch, with an Up&Down shifter, cornering ABS, 3 riding modes (Race - Sport - Street), traction, wheeling and engine braking control systems, a 4.3-inch color TFT dashboard.... and a Ride by Wire handlebar that just begs to be used. Weld!
As the numbers on the upper tee indicate, this Panigale V2 Bayliss edition is a numbered series, but not a limited one. So there are no prohibitive production figures to spoil the excitement of owning one. But that doesn't mean there'll be one for everyone. At over 23,000 euros a piece, three ingots more than the standard model, this replica remains synonymous with both sentimental and financial commitment.
A new story is born between Ducati and "Baylisstic". The factory is strongly attached to this WSBK character, and shows it. Along with Fogarty, he's the rider Ducati pays most homage to in terms of the number of replica models. In addition to this Panigale V2, the Taree native has had his coat of arms featured on a 1098 Rand a 998 S - the deco here is virtually the same as on the 998in question. History and the present are still creating beautiful bikes.
