presentation of the 1300 V-ROD DESTROYER VRXSE 2006
do you know the dragster concept? You put on a big mill with lots of watts (several hundred horsepower at least), accelerate like crazy and take it all in. The aim is to cover a distance in as little time as possible, to make your brain smoke and to make you feel like you're in a slingshot.
with the Destroyer, Harley-Davidson offers the dragster on the open market. It's no longer a stick of dynamite reserved for a few enthusiasts, but a massive dose of adrenalin for all... Well, almost. Even so, this crazy thing will sell for €30,000 and only 600 will be produced for 2006. Don't expect to see one before 2007, as the 6 machines planned for France this year have already been reserved.
The recipe? The fury of a big boiler on an airport runway.
the V-Rod 's liquid-cooled twin expands to 1,300 cm3 by increasing stroke and bore. We take the opportunity to revise the cylinder heads, increase the compression ratio to 14:1, fit forged pistons, add an electro-pneumatic shifter for gear selection and reinforce the clutch. The latter is in for a serious workout, as it's going to have to transmit some serious torque. The V-Rod Destroyer develops over 165 hp at the rear wheel (which must be well over 180 at the vilo). That's a lot of power for a twin-cylinder!
and then, we might as well get rid of the superfluous. The turn signals, lighting, exhaust, rear shock absorber and almost 45 kg are all gone. With its wheelie-bar, the Destroyer has a kerb weight of 239 kg. With this appendage, you can wring out the handlebars like a deglinguos without the risk of flipping the bike over. Once you've got the beast in your hands, settle into the deeply recessed seat, open wide, and pray...
